How do you access companions inventory?
I've got Strong following me (not by choice) but I can't access his inventory to add armour and stimpacks - all I get is the command prompt. Also how do I dismiss him once I've done with him? I assume all companions are the same but Strong is my first one.

Ah, I got it now. Have to be close enough so the prompt disappears then step back a bit until it reappears then I can talk to Strong, trade etc. Not very f'king intuitive. This is why I don't have companions in these games.

How do you make a companion use a different weapon? Strong was using a mini gun and now he's just using a sledgehammer that isn't even in his inventory.

I'[ve also seen him kneeling on the floor as if hurt but I can't use a stimpack on him and he just stays put and doesn't follow. Randomly the game will just decide to teleport him in front of me.

To hell with this. I'm going to find how to dismiss him. If I can't do that I'll have to command console him into oblivion.

All companions come with a default weapon (melee or gun). Those that have a gun also have unlimited ammo FOR THAT GUN. However, if you give your companion a different wep, you'll have to keep him supplied with ammo too. You either gave him a minigun or he picked it up on his own (they can do that). The reason he stopped using it is because he ran out of ammo.

You can tell your companion to equip a wep by opening his inventory using the "trade" command, highlighting the wep and then press the "T" key. If they have the ammo, they'll use it. You can tell them to equip clothing and armor the same way.

Sometimes they get "stuck" in animations like swimming, kneeling down and such. Open the console and select the companion. Then type changeanimflavor (CAF also works).

Using the console to "console him into oblivion" is dangerous and you risk borking your game. The same holds true for consoling your way through a quest. You have been warned.

Ok, thanks. Sure miss the days of game manuals.

It's actually not complicated at all. Talk to them in a normal talking distance and you'll get any talking/trading/dismissing commands you want.
