the boston common sure is glitchy
ok well i already knew about the area by goodneighbor being graphically glitchy and all but now that im looking for the freedom trail near the boston common its the same. Ill find areas where it gets all choppy and unplayable causing me concern as to is the game even able to be completed?? It's starting to make me irritated because I've put a good amount of time into the game and now im being forced to go around certain areas..

Best lower your settings some. Turn off Godrays and Weapon Debris. Then turn Shadow Distance to medium. Also, you might have to lower your resolution.

For Better suggestions please post your system specs.

PS. The password is xenomorph. Just kidding. :)

Lower your graphics settings and/or use mods to lower the VRAM usage.

If you haven't tried it yet, then take a look at these:

Optimized Vanilla Textures (OVT)
Faraway Area Reform (FAR)
Shadow Boost
ENBoost
Insignificant Object Remover

Also try to defragment your harddrive or install the game on an SSD if you have one around.

how is it a gpu problem if 99% of the time im well over 60fps? I thought it was more of a developer problem?

i7 6700k
16gb ddr4 3200mhz ram
980ti overclocked (1430mhz boost clock)
1440p

what other specs are relevant? it is installed on my HDD not my SSD so yes i might just go ahead and install it onto SSD.

is it really a gpu problem or is the game developers fault??

I had this spec (not Ti), it was a bit choppy til I put shadow distance medium.
My newer 1060 is better smooth 60fps.

it will always be choppy around the city OP, it happens even on high end computers, it is indeed a optimization problem

the rest of the map however performs great

wow well i turned down AA, shadow detail to medium, turned off godrays and weapon debris and the area near goodneighbor where it was the most unplayable is now playable.. I found the freedom trail, even went back to the areas where it was first choppy and also fine.. I got in the railroad and the password wasn't xenomorph lol.. well thanks folks that made my day much better :)

Depends on how you want to see it.

It's one of the most configurable game engines. As a result can a game such as Skyrim, which was released in 2011, still push hardware of 2017 to its limit when you max all parameters and install some of the more demanding mods. Fallout 4's engine together with the HD Texture Pack and its modding community will be able to do exactly the same.

If you don't get along with its concept, perhaps you've expected more simplicity, then you're also not going to like it and you can arrive at the opinion of it just not being optimized or bad or simply being old.

To be fair, it's not for everyone, because for some is this just one game of many and they'll most likely have forgotten about it once they've moved on to newer games.

Thanks. Well I'm more for enjoying the game so I turned down some settings to keep game playable and it worked. I hear what your saying and since this is my second purchase of fallout 4 first being on my ps4, I strictly bought it to play and enjoy it. Which I am immensely so turning down settings didn't bother me too much seeing as its still gorgeous and super fun..
