How on earth can I figure it out?
Referring to the terminals with the passwords to guess out of a jumbled mess of words, there are only 5 tries then locked out for 10 seconds and try again. Most of the time I've been lucky and have picked the right word if I pick the first 5 every time until I get a winner. My luck has run out at the Facilities Terminal. I must get it so I can please that Dance guy and maybe he will reward me with some power armor parts, no?

Sorry to be a bother, just hoping someone can help a brother out in need. Surely, I can look it up on YouTube, or on Google, but if I get someone who's cool to help me then it's more fun.

The question is: is there some reason to the password thing? I'm only on novice level stuff, wonder how mind blowing the harder ones are??

first find a line with a { [ ( or < and it will have a matching } ] ) or > do these first they will remove duds then with the words left it should be less then 6 if you have 3 in hacking even on a master terminal.

they will look like this to remove a dud (-[}>) with this combo it will remove one or reset your tries.

After you guess wrong it will tell how many of the letters in your guess match the true answer. The letters will be in the same position in the word. For instance, if the true word was HORSE and you guessed SHORE, it would say 1 match because only the E is the correct letter in the correct position. Inversely, if you guess a word and get zero matches, this is actually great information to have because you know the true word can't have any matching positional letters to the word you just guessed. Info above amount matching the symbols in the code is helpful as well.

You can cut the number of choices down with brackets, like Gropax said, and as bigdale said, the minigame itself tells you how many letters match each time you pick a word, allowing you to narrow it down.

In addition, the higher your Intelligence, the lower the number of words you'll see in the first place, and if you get a particularly difficult selection, you can always exit the terminal before using all your retries and start over with a new selection if you don't want to wait for it to reset.

As for the more difficult terminals, if you have the perks to attempt them, you'll see that they simply use longer words, which isn't as hard as it might sound, since it can often reduce the chance for any one word to happen to have the same number of correct letters as the one you guess.

I fail more novice terminals than anything else, probably for that reason.

Oh man, thanks!! Very detailed and percise info and I am very thankful for you. Peace to you and long life :)

I must wonder about why the producers felt it necessary to give us these time/tempo destroying distractions in an otherwise flawless gameplaying experience. Regarding all the help and that awesome video: I'm so thankful there are people out there, like y'all, who posess way higher IQ levels than myself

I totally appreciate it!!

i give myself 3 tries .. esc .. re-enter

repeat until hack
Bethesda wants you to play the annoying hacking game? well play the annoying hacking game, by hacking; open the console click the terminal in question; and type unlock.

The whole point is to not see the correct password as plain text within seconds. It's a "hacking game" and you should have some problems and/or a few tries.

Nowadays even basic game mechanics are too hard for the common user. Jesus.

It's not hard it's annoying, you have to think people are replaying this game. This is my 21st play through, my characters are height scaled. So not only do i have to player.setscale 1.0 everytime i need to hack, i gotta do it atleast 3-4 times per dungeon.

I like fusion city, but that mod i wanted to blow my brains out because the author thought it would be awesome to hack every 5 feet.

I'm working on something though that will make this alot less annoying.

It's part of the game, so you better get used to it.
Don't like it? Don't play it.

Alot of things are apart of Fallout 4 that i don't like, that's why they gave us tools to change that. I know you're Canadian and like to argue about nonesense, but Argue when you've past 1400 hours in game play like i have.

283 Hours of gameplay your probably still on the same play through.
Glass Mother Mar 7, 2017 @ 5:36am
And here we go with the "You've got less hours ingame than me" argument. Which isn't an argument at all. Try harder next time. Not even C for effort.

I've had absolutely no trouble doing it in the first three (or four, sometimes six) tries, but the one at the facilities terminal is forcing me to understand the way it works (I hate when that happens in a video game I'm trying to love).
