Drinking Buddy Bugged?

so I'm trying to do the Trouble Brewing quest but buddy won't activate Dialog he just sits there saying generaric greeting lines but wont actualy activate the dialog interface.

is there anything I can do to get him to work or is this another bug that Bethesda will ignore for the rest of forever? like the Big Dig quest?

I did both drinking buddy and big dig on at least 5 playthroughs now and passed them both fine each time

I once got through Trouble Brewin just fine no bugs.
but every time I attempt The Big Dig I get stuck at the last wall cause the Eyebot refuses to move and I cant open dialog with anyone. so I disable the wall and everything works just fine.

but this bug is completely new, even using setstage 0017d18c 710 to instantly complete the quest doesn't fix Buddy's broken behavior

He won't go to the last wall until you talk to the guy, he gives you the final warning to do a sweep of the place before your ready, after that point the eyebot then goes to the wall

I saw that originally, just explaining the way it goes, not sure why he can't talk to anyway it worked for me

I never had to use the setstage command on ANY mission btw, either its related to that or a mod conflict

bug = doing it wrong. Although I too find Drinking Buggy tough and avoid it.

Have you checked the Wiki on this quest yet? The Wiki usually tells you about the different choices and gives a walk-through. It will also tell you about any known bugs and possibly the console commands on how to fix it.

You could try using the cosole to select Buddy, then type either "disable" followed by "enable" or "recycle actor" if that doesn't work. This can also be used to unstick Mel in The Big Dig.

I got the Trouble Brewin' quest from Rufus a few days ago. I decided to complete it yesterday, cleared out the Shamrock Taphouse and released Buddy from his pod. I told him to go to Hotel Rexford and since I had to wait, I did some other things and got carried away for almost 10 hours. I had business in Goodneighbor, so I decided to get my reward. Buddy told me to go inside and talk to the staff when I arrived to the hotel's entrance. The lady at the counter told me to talk to Rufus and he told me that I should bring the robot inside but whenever I try asking Buddy to go inside, he keeps repeating these lines over and over:
- Engaging compliment subroutine. Looking good!
- How's it going, friend?
- Hey there buddy, you look like you could use a drink.
- Boy, that sure is some WEATHER we're having.

If I use resetquest and get it again Rufus, Buddy leaves for the Shamrock taphouse. If I try talking to him there, he repeats the exact same lines.
I overwrote my save files, so I cant load.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

I encountered this too, the first time I did this quest. What I think fixed it was selecting buddy in the console, going inside, and using the "moveto player" command to move him far enough away from the door that he wouldn't go back outside before I finished talking to Rufus. I believe he stayed inside after that.

I would recommend not overwriting your saves anymore, though - not just because of issues like this, but also because in Bethesda games it can cause save corruption.

I wrote in console SetStage 0017d18c 700. Then talk to Rufus. The quest has been completed. Buddy appeared at the hotel. But Buddy keeps repeating same lines over and over. Doesn't give me beer, doesn't take my drinks

Probably cause you used SetStage. It tends to cause errors like that as it doesn't set every single script involved with a quest.

sorry for necro but if anyone is reading this i found it out!!!! if there are any enemys in the area buddy wont do dialiog so before you activate him type "killall" in console then he will work!!!! (that or kill the 2 radroaches hidden behind the blue double doors)

Bro I'm just happy to know people are still having this issue and that I am not insane.

Well i got quest From Rufus and when I told buddy to go to hotel but he didn't go there.
What helped me is I told him to change his destination to my settlement and when he started move there I told him that he is sold so he started moving to Rufus.
