Best melee weapon without science?
So, im doing a playthrough with heavy focus con melee, mostly blunt (fits the style), and commando, avoiding VATS 100%, and trying to avoid stealth unless absolutely needed, so i went heavy on str, agi 6 for running and tanking, 5 luck for idiot savant and money, and 3 on both charisma and endurance for those awesome tanky perks. Didnt want to invest into intelligence for roleplaying purposes, i wouldnt mind adding a few perks later on but science ll definetly break my immersion big time.

The problem is... without science, my baseball bat is already at its maximum capacity in terms of damage and im not even lvl 20, so i have 2 questions:

1) Should i use another blunt weapon? is there a weapon that uses lvl 3 blacksmith rank?

2) If not, is there a reliable way to find better modded weapons, or buy one ? swatter style, idk, maybe a security baton?, a pipe wrench or a lead pipe?

Its easy to just wiki this information, but fallout is full of hidden gems that are not in a wikia. (Like when a friend told me to use a kneekapper pipe rifle at high levels, that was fun...)

Give Grognac's axe a try. Let me know how it works out. (Also, if you wear the costume, it's supposed to give you some perks in that department).

Well, I invest in Intelligence early on because I use guns because I am afraid of dying. I know that high intelligence gives more experience, and this is a burden because I cannot collect as much guns from enemies before leveling up past a certain point in the main quest, therefore I do not have as much wealth going into the main quest in the later stages of the game - Ie it is not advantageous to have higher intelligence.

Go with a sharp baseball bat for bleeding damage, and you can induce more critical hits with a baseball bat as compared to a sledgehammer. THe sledgehammer is best for enemies like ghouls but the baseball bat is better overall. I have low strength so I do not know how many special points in strength increase the baseball bats damage per point.
THe baseball bat and machete are evenly matched in my opinion. I wouldn't use anything else.

My double barrel shotgun makes melee weapons obsolete. I can fire two rounds and do a quick bash attack to stun my opponent whilst getting ready for a reload and placing my charater in a safe spot to do so- it is this technique I adhere to that makes wealth collecting and experience points gathered by killing single enemies a waste of time making my late game wealth gathering not a priority.

Machetes and Baseball bats are best.

trying to block a super mutant club attack? use a baseball bat to negate the damage. 99% chance you are able to do a counter attack right back into the super mutants face.

Use a sledgehammer to block the super mutants attack and he will quickly line you up and you won't even be able to attack his face square on after a block/parry and you will lose ground/forward motion as to whether you were going down a road or looking for wealth. the super mutant will eat you.

Deathclaw Gauntlet. If you can upgrade it to a Large Deathclaw Gauntlet, that's even better.

Kremvh's Tooth is good, it can be found at the end of Dunwich Borers

Disciples knife from Nuka World (if you don't mind foregoing the blunt theme). Speed/animations of the combat knife with 200+ damage when modded. You don't need to progress the raider quest line in order to get one, in fact, killing the raiders is the easiest way to get one.

And as far as Cito's shiny slugger, no, you don't need to do any raider quests. You get it for doing the Safari Park's quest, which is totally separate from the Raider quests.

Furious Power Fist. Dmg-45 (Increased damage after each consecutive hit on the same target) Get it by killing The Swan.

Yeah i used that knife, its absurdly op, even outside of VATS, i think i like the idea of that shiny slugger you are talking about, even if it bugs me the fact that im not using its legendary effect, its still my best option for blunt, after this playthrough i ll probably mod the game again for some nice added weaponry.

The problem i have with the double barrel is that it doesnt scale properly into lategame, after lvl 30 or so it starts being kinda bad, and after 40 or so its almost completely useless, unless you find a legendary one, if you know a way to farm for double barrel shotguns at later levels let me know, that would be quite amazing actually.

It adds a dozen of melee weapons. Pretty balanced, average base damage is around 20-60. All of them are upgradable. You can upgrade even a frying pan with a heating cube lol

This modds add more swords which are balanced as well:

There are also dozens of katanas mods but they are not that balanced (90-180dmg), but I don't think that katanas should be balanced so I don't mind to use them from time to time lol

The Rockville Slugger, sold in Diamond City, has the mod for 40% less action points required. If you ever decide to use VATS it's an amazing weapon due to the sheer number of attacks involved.
