I've not seen any references to the Southern Hemisphere ever being involved in the holocaust.
But I could be wrong and I'll need to research this.
A quote from, Emil (Note: This is not Interplay or Black Isle, rather Bethesda's take on it):
"Allistair Tenpenny came to the Capital Wasteland from Great Britain to seek his fortune, so that alone tells you that the U.K. was also hit in the war. And if he came to U.S. to succeed, that says a lot about how screwed up Europe must be. So we just allude, a little bit, to the state of the rest of the world. We like to leave a lot to the players' imaginations, and somebody like Tenpenny serves as a catalyst for those thoughts." - Emil Pagliarulo[5]
So basically MAD
You beat me to this...
China being close enough radiation would have found its way to Australia as well. We already see in Fallout 4 and 3 that the ocean is highly radioactive so its a good bet that the ocean around Australia is just as toxic. I can only imagine what things would be swimming around the Great Barrier Reef. There probably wouldn't be the scorched trees and dead vegetation that you see in Fallout 4 but there would be a lot of mutated plants from the radiation in the air.
In short Mad Max meets Fallout meets Point Lookout meets mutant kangaroos and raiders that yell "That's not a knife.......this is a knife" that sorta look like Crocodile Dundee
Depending on their involvement, they could have suffered a nuke or two, but they're not a priority target.
I kind of want to see what they'd do with "radroos", because I imagine they could turn out pretty freaky; something all spindly and withered that bounds around at high speed and frequently changes direction between leaps. I'd absolutely hate them, of course, especially when they leapt on top of me like a movie velociraptor.
Edit: removed an innacuracy about them being larger then they actually are; i keep over/under estimating things in metres.
Also: The largest Crocodile found/recorded was 6.17 metres, or 20 feet, 3 inches.
And these, yes. Don't forget about the snakes or drop bears either.
