taking independence bug

the quest stays stuck on Meet with the Minutemen near the Castle no matter what i do and i can not go back to an old save becuse im on survival mode

Did you meet up with Preston and the other MM? After a discussion they walk over towards the castle and then the fun begins. Have you meet with and talked to the MM in the small building next to the castle?

yes but the quest never updates

Depending on which options you choose the MM take different actions. I am most familiar with the "Draw them out" option. If you do that, after the discussion they all run over to the north side of the building. You have to wait for them to all get over there. Sometimes one of them will get stuck in a doorway or something stupid in which case you just have to stand there and wait till they figure it out. after all 4 are in position, the quest updates. it should probably take 2 minutes at the most for that to happen.

its a case of the quest wont check off meet them at the castle i can go and make an attack plan kill all of the mirelurks but nothing happens after no quest updates nothing

After you kill the mirelurks does preston come in and start talking about how you have to go around and wipe out all the egg locations?

If nothing helps then I'd check out the Wiki and the console commands on how to set certain quest stages. Maybe you'll find something that'll help you.

Can't use the console in survival. I'm trying to figure out if there's another action that needs to be taken, ie: more mirelurks to kill or something, or if this quest bugged out on them for some reason.

i have the mod that lets me use console commands in survival but they dont work aswell and after i wipe out the eggs and mirelurks preston still says we need to retake the castle

After you destroy the eggs do you have to fight the mirelurk queen? If you have access to the console I would try advancing the stage of the quest.

after i kill the mirelurks and eggs nothing happens and what the command to advance in the quest?

Search "Fallout 4 Taking Independence" in google. Then go to the wikia page. That page will have the stage numbers for different parts of the quest. You will then be using the "setstage" command in the console. It's been awhile, so I would search for "fallout 4 setstage" in google. look at the wikia page, that will tell you how to use that command. You will be entering something that looks like "setstage 1f234 800" into the console. The wikia page will tell you exactly how to use that command though.

The mirelurk queen comes from the sea so walk around the exterior of the castle looking for any Minutemen and see if it triggers. It took me a while to figure out the next part of the mission because I had missed a couple of the guys shouting "LOOK AT THAT THING!!" because I was inside one of the rooms cooking eggs. I ended up exploring to see where everyone was and then bloody Lurkzilla™ just appears out the sea like a giant, scary Ursula Andres.
