Old Reliable Question
Two shot weapons fire 2 bullets that spread apart a little, but i heard Old Reliable fires 2 shots that act as 1 bullet and they go in the same direction. Is this true? Is this what makes it unique?

Cheers

I thought 2-shot weapons had two bullets in-line with each other? At least that's what it looked like in VATS.

2shot weapons normaly are just 2 rounds loaded. fired in tandum or seperate.Mostly double barrel shotgun for example.

it's 2 shots as 1. That being shot 1 is the gun's base dmg, + 2, the modded shot. So a 30dmg base that's modded by gun nut to 60, will shoot 1 shot of 90dmg.

Two shot weapons just seem to do two hits for one, you do not actually use 2 rounds each time you fire. If the game engine actually fires two shots it is not obvious in vats or otherwise.

I have a two shot plasma gun and it certainly does not seem to have two green blobs come out when it fires. The damage is not double either. It varies from weapon to weapon. The best damage improvement I have found is with a 38 caliber mod for the hunting rifle which seems to do more than double the base damage, It actually makes this an efficient sniper rifle because it uses this plentiful and normally weak ammo.

It does actually fire two shots, which is much more evident with some weapons than others. One of the most blatant examples would be if you put the bowling ball mod from the Striker onto Big Boy; it launches two bowling balls for every shot fired, allowing you to create additional bowling ball ammunition just by picking it up after each shot.

The two separate shots have the same spread as a normal shot, so for weapons without much spread, they're pretty much directly on top of each other.

As for damage, the second shot adds the base damage of an unmodified version of the weapon, so if you've modified it for higher damage, it will be less than double, while if you've modified it for lower damage (as with your hunting rifle example), it will effectively be more than double.

I think that's probably due to VATS sending them both directly towards your target if you score a successful hit.

I'd have to check to see if VATS makes them travel in the same direction if you miss, but they can certainly diverge outside of VATS.

I did a *scoped shot with a gauss rifle and watched the animation split the shot near the target, it had the 2-shot legendary stat. Never tried with any other gun...mostly because I have never found another gun with that effect that I wanted to use.

Old reliable will not miss outside of vats. 2 shot weapon won't miss in vats but out of vats the second bullet will have some spread the longuer the shot is.

These weapons are a riot to use. Try it with a Gauss Rifle. This Legendary mod is second only to Never Ending.
