how does the green gas that is litterly everywhere not effect the player?

no game is perfect probably just something that the developers missed, if I did that level as a developer I would have put pockets of radiation effects in random places

A wizard did it? who knows. Maybe they assumed the player character would be wearing Power Armor or a gasmask of some form which prevents them breathing it in.

Yea that too considering how early in the game they give the power armor, but to be honest its not even needed the game can be completed with standard armor, and I only had to use the hazmat suit in glowing sea and a few other select areas temporary

Do you mean the drug leaking into the air (turning people crazy) or the 'non lethal' gas they showcase in some of the rooms?

Because the drug leakage would probably take some time to cause anything to cause craziness, as it is most likely continues contact that causes the psychosis seen in the gunners. As for the non lethal gas, that's anyone's guess. Maybe the Sole Survivor has super radiation powers that made his lungs drug resistant?
