[Instructions] How to fix the black face issue with HD texture pack...
Issue looks like: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/NUebLJ6HKZY/maxresdefault.jpg

This keeps all textures HD except for some faces (unnoticeable):

1. Download the BAE extractor: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/78/?

2. Go to your common>Fallout4>Data folder and extract DLCUltraHighResolution - Textures01.ba2 into the same data folder using BAE.

3. Note: If you are using face mods and so forth they might need to be re-installed after this (not sure). Go to common>Fallout4>Data>Textures>Actors and remove the "Character" folder. This makes it use the non-HD textures for some faces, including the screwed up ones.

I have tried to isolate it down to specific folders within the Character folder but none fixed "Father's" face specifically - the entire folder needs to be removed in order for it to work.

4. Remove the textures01 .ba2 file from the Fallout 4 data directory, back it up somewhere. Renaming the file could also work.

5. This may not be necessary, but add these lines to the Fallout4Custom.ini in your Documents>mygames>Fallout4 folder:

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

If there are still issues try doing the same steps for the Textures02.ba2 folder. If there are any improvements to this method please post them -

I haven't got any black faces while trying the HD pack? I found it of a very little effect even on ultra settings, only causing a huge lag at times when that Weather mod was going on, and I chose to keep the weather mod, not the 'HD but no real HD' pack. But no black faces, none. I recall 'black faces' happening when using lower settings but with other games. No tech here, just my two cents.
Anyway, thanks for pointing at the pack location. For I can finally throw it away...

For me it only affected synth Shaun and Father, looks like: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/NUebLJ6HKZY/maxresdefault.jpg

Plenty of other people had issues as posted in the official HD pack thread, with no clear solutions. This solution keeps all the HD textures intact.

i saw some random npc's with black faces. Not happen before installing DLCUltraHRes. But i only use CBBE and this mod dont 'touch' faces.. Im wondering myself if there is any possibility some other mods (like Bettersettlers, which one modify heads) could be the reason of the issue. better settlers is only a 'esp' file, dont have any texture or meshes files. so thats my dude.

There's a easier fix, just delet the two files called BaseFemaleHead_d And BaseFemaleHead_s Located in Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\textures\actors\character\basehumanfemale. That's what fixed that sunburn lol. It was a face mod but it's apparently not compatable with the new HD Pack until some one decides to fix it thats your best option.

I also have this issue with Father and synth Shaun. Even after completely reinstalling FO4 + HD textures and starting a completely new no-mods save, this method does not fix the issue but gives Father a neon-purple hair color that can't be changed even via "ShowLooksMenu" method of editing NPC appearances. This bug has also carried over to my older saves that have not been touched in months.

For people mentioning the sunburn issue in here [Not the black spots]. Just disable the "Young Explorer" mod. It's the one not compatible with the new texture pack causing perma noggin burn.

This worked for me inside Vortex - thank you!

I've had this happen without using the HD texture pack, as well as no mods.

So it's not just the HD texture pack that causes the issue.

I am having the same issue with npcs but if I do anything to the HD pack it removes the sanctuary wall mod but it do fix the faces I would like to keep both the wall n the fixed faces

IF you read the thread 2 posts above, it isn't necessarily caused by the HD texture pack.
