this should have been handled better. should just be able to untick the check box or something. or have the pack as a seperate zip file to download. but then bethesda would have to host it themselves. its not like they have the infrastructure set up to manage game downloads....like a game launcher or anything

After unchecking, you could just delete the files from the disk yourself. If you know how to do PC stuff.

Oh boy you actually wasted(sorry for saying this) that much HDD space and also time downloading something that can be noticed not by looking at the textures, but at the FPS counter

Unchecking the box made Steam automatically remove the entire package from my PC, returning the 50GB of space.

Otherwise, yeah, I assume you can just delete the "DLC High Res Texture Pack.ba2" whatever it is. There's like 10 of them.

"Click on 'Support' to the right of Fallout 4" is no longer possible since Steam royally screwed up the user interface. Selecting Support from the pull-down menu takes you to a page that has NOTHING to do with the rest of the directions¹…not to mention that "permanently" in step six might not be a good idea for those contemplating buying a monitor/GPU that could benefit.

Instead, the NEW directions are:
1. Open your Steam library.
2. Select this game.
3. Go to DLC pane (all owned DLCs are not visible there until you click on [in my case] "Manage My 8 DLC."
4. Scroll down in the list of installed DLCs and UNCHECK the entry for the high-resolution texture pack.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
¹
1. Go to your Steam Library by clicking "Library" at the top.
2. Click on Fallout 4.
3. Click on "Support" to the right of Fallout 4.
4. Scroll to the bottom, if you have the season pass or a lot of dlc, click "Show all DLC"
5. Click on "High Resolution Texture Pack"
6. Click on "I want to remove this permanently from my game library"

I played with the HD Texture DLCs since it came out. Recently I ditched it (reinstalling entire game) simply because I think it causes too many conflicts with newer cards.

After removing it I can not even tell the difference.

I downloaded it and see the review and i cancel it. but the next day why i feel my fallout 4 laggy without doing anything and any diffrence. And i try to instal texture optimization and i see in my folder, theres 58gb of dlc texture files. Im actually done. i left my laptop for 1 night and wasted 55gb of internet data for laggier and without any changes. I rly hate this. i wish i could just give minus star.

Truth is, the hi-res pack is only good for displays offering resolutions in excess of the now-industry-standard 1920•1080; only players with monitors rendering at greater resolutions than that should consider using it. If your native resolution is 1920•1080, you're not getting better visual results; all you are doing is creating greater processing demand and decreasing performance...resulting in longer load times, stutters, and freezes.

  8. Click "OK"

after doing this procedure, the 50 GB remained in my Steam folder. To solve this I did the following:

1. Go to your Steam Library by clicking "Download" at the top
2. Click on Fallout 4
3. Right click on Fallout 4 and select "Propierties"
4. Click on "Local Files"
5. Run "Check file integrity ..."
6. After completing the scan, all "DLC High Res Texture Pack.ba2" files have been deleted and you will have your 50GB back.

That's it, I hope I've helped!

This is indeed great help. But All I did was untick the DLC, shut Steam and reopen it. Then, the 50GB were back for me!

If you are running mods then I think running step 5 might cause problems. Not 100% sure but I thought I re-verified game files on a modded game once and it reinstalled the non-modded versions and screwed everything up.
