Can't download Hi-Res Texture DLC
I can't download the Hi-Res Texture DLC.

When I use my browser - I click on the Download button on the Steam page and the blue Got Steam? window opens and there is no option for downloading anything. I tried clicking on the play now button to see what would happen but it doesn't do anything. Steam is already installed on my computer and currently running and I have over 100 games and everything else works as expected including Fallout 4. But Steam won't let me download the Hi-Res texture pack.

When I use Steam - I click on the download button for the Hi-Res Texture DLC and it just opens the game's splash screen.

I tried right clicking on steam Fallout 4 icon so that I could view downloadable content but there is no option for that under Fallout 4.

Does anybody have any ideas what's wrong?

The pack should start pre allocating after the launcher opens. It takes a while but it will start downloading after some time.

Thanks. I tried closing my Steam client then opening it again. Now the texture pack is downloading.

That's a really really really bad setup by Steam and Bethesda. The only feedback supplied to the user is totally misleading. I click on the download button and instead it tries to open the game and there is no indication that anything is trying to download (until I restart Steam, which is never mentioned).

I spoke to soon. The DLC download never actually started and now it just disappeared from the download queue.

Verify the cache for the game and the download will start if you have the High Res Texture Pack in your DLC list.

Thanks. Now it's downloading.

Same here. Looks like a failure on Bethesda part.

How is it Bethesda's fault that Steam's store page for Fallout 4's texture pack has a broken download button? Please explain why you think that Bethesda has any control over Steam's service?

Not really... This is not being treated as a mod. It is a DLC and Steam is responsible for distributing Bethesda's DLCs because Steam is contracted to handle all of Bethesda's AAA game titles on PC. This agreement started with the original version of Skyrim. It is not something new

Everything can be better, but who offers a better service than Steam currently does? Nothing is ever perfect. ;)
