I'd say get you some mods because all the vanilla clothing that you can add armor to looks lame to me besides a vault suit and baseball uniform that is.My favorite clothing in general is the Bos field scribe outfit but you can't add armor to it.

My favourites are raider leathers, dirty army fatigues, synth uniform and Gunner flannel shirt and jeans.

Of those only the dirty fatuges can be upgraded with weave

It wont allow armor, but the Silber Shroud attire ist pretty good and stylish as hell.

There are two great mods on the Nexus; "Armorsmith Extended" (Nexus Id: 75530) which makes almost all the clothing in game upgradeable AND compatible with armor, and "Concealed Armors" (Nexus Id: 24193) which allows you to craft 'invisible armor' that can be worn UNDER your clothes... meaning you can still impress in your tux without all the clutter on top. You can always change back as well, if you decide to wear something suitable with armor showing.

"Armorsmith Extended" Let's you wear any armor over any clothing. But there's lot sof stuff that won't look right because of overlap. Still some outfits look fine, except maybe arm armor doesn't look right.

It also has other armor functionality, some of it may feel cheaty though. So only use those functions you feel are balanced.

The list of clothes that can take ballistic weave and have all armor slots open are...

Army fatigues
Baseball uniform
Dirty army fatigues
Green shirt and combat boots
Military fatigues
Minuteman outfit
Tattered rags

Not a lot really.

modded that ballistic weave can applied on a lot of stuff ... so vault suit, ballistic wave and combat armor. btw ballistic on a vault suit 120 damage resist and 130 energy resist.

The Unified Clothing Overhaul (U.C.O) mod also lets you die armor and clothing and even lets you make individual armor pieces invisible at the crafting station. Also if there's ever a clothing for which you want to wear armor over it and which doesn't already have a mod to do that, just make an override record into your own ESP using either Creation Kit or FO4Edit. You'll see a part where it indicates slots. Just make the armor addon and armo pieces use only slot 33. That will free the armor and other slots that are blocked. Don't remove the 33, though.
