A boost for your FPS
Navigate to your Fallout4Prefs.ini and find uiOrthoShadowFilter=

It should say 1. Change that to a 3.

So it should look like uiOrthoShadowFilter=3

Some people are saying that it's at 3 and to change it to 1, but mine was at 1 and I changed it to 3 and that gave me a boost. It's weird but that's how it happened.

That's all dudes.

I think you have it backwards, you're supposed to change it from a 3 to a 1 (or 2)

On high settings it's a 3, on lower settings it's a 2. It stands to reason that 1 would be the lowest.

The default Shadow Filter is 3, the lower it is, the less shadows are focused on so you should probably edit that to like 2 or something

Actually mine was at 1 and I changed it to 3 and I got a boost from that. I know it seems weird, but that's how it worked for me.

The way the guide going around is worded in regards to the shadow filter, the guy is suggesting you LOWER YOUR OVERALL SHADOW QUALITY TO LOW OR MEDIUM, and then RAISE YOUR SHADOW FILTERING TO COMPENSATE AND SMOOTH THE ALIASING.

That's what I got out of it at least, as for you, Skeptik, perhaps you were bottlenecking at the CPU so raising the filtering pushed your GPU and CPU closer to parity?
