How To Attach Weapon Mods ?
Frustrated here, I know I am missing something, and there is a simple solution, but I can's seem to attach mods. I hit "E" to "attach" and hit "return" to accept. The weapon mod never seems to attach to the weapon. I know I have the mod, it is in my inventory. Mod in question: I am attempting to attach a shield to a tactical pipe machine gun. It lists the mod as installed when I select the weapon through inventory, but when I view the weapon or equip it in game the mod does not appear. Is it supposed to or am I doing something wrong. As I said, I knoe there is a simple solution. Can anyone give some input? Thanks.

Go to the weapon workbench , select the weapon , select the mod slot , select the mod then exit the menu.

Thanks for not calling me stupid. Seems I am anyway - I was not equipping the gun I had modified. I had mulitple versions/copies of that particular gun type. Now I am not sure how the inventory system works! I assume it groups like-modded items into their own groups.

I went through your steps, and yes, that does work.Thank you for the help!

You are correct, all armor and weapons with the same mod, or exact combination of mods, will stack.

If you want an easier way to keep track of your personalised weapons it helps to name them something memorable. When using the workbench or armor bench press "T" to rename the item you currently have selected. I believe its T by default but I'm not positive, I tend to rebind alot of keys. Either way, it should mention which key to press to rename an item when using the bench.
