Lookup Failed {Solved?}
I have been searching this topic up for quite some time, trying to find a fix. I've verified the game cache, I reinstalled the game, I have absolutely NO mods installed. I have deleted the /strings folder, and removed the /STRINGS line in the ini.

This is not fun to try and deal with, as every aspect of the game, except the main menu, comes up with the "Lookup Failed" error. I wouldn't be so angry over this, if I got to actually go through one run, before it hit the fan like this.

I see what you have written maybe remove game completely from
C: drive.steam/steamapps/commom/f4 and redown load it and verify it. Not through steam, only for reinstalling the game.
Not sure if you did it this way.

Search your PC for "Fallout 4" and delete everything it finds except your saves folder. Get rid of all the configs and caches and what not and just leave behind any folder called 'saves' or 'saved games'.

People think uninstalling a game cleans it from your system, but these days it does not, it just removes the actual game but leaves behind all of the configs, logs, preference files, cache files and a myriad of other nonsensical chuff in places like public/appdata/local/Fallout 4 or documents/Fallout 4 and more often than not the problem is due to an error that has popped up in a config file or a shader cache or whatnot.

When I am forced to reinstall something I remove every trace of it I can find except for saved games. That way when you reinstall it it is a truly virgin install instead of a new install which just finds the damaged file and generates the same error or crash.

^^ pro tip, very useful when installing new hardware and you don't want config files lying around with hardcoded settings designed to utilise your old hardware.

Use this mod:
http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/97/?

it fixed the Lookup failed for me

its a collection of 'fixed' english strings in addition to fixing various typos among other things it also fixed the "Lookup Failed" error when other methods failed

You cannot look up or your game keeps to lock up?

Its an error that in workshop / face / barber menus displays items and entries as {{Lookup Failed}} instead normal names.

Yeah, it's failure to find something, you usually get it when a file is missing.

I should have added that: when it started, I had to run my computer through a clean install. Everything was wiped from my computer, and I had ENTIRELY reinstall Windows. When I finally got around to reinstalling Fallout 4, that bug cropped up everywhere.

Are you trying to start a game or load a game?
. Jun 12, 2017 @ 8:47pm
Both. More recently, I just tried loading, but New Games were giving me the problem as well. I'll try new game again, though. Hold on.
krashd Jun 12, 2017 @ 8:49pm
Nah, the reason I asked is because your save games will require everything that was present when you saved them. so if you had mods installed when you last played successfully then you will need those same mods reinstalled.

As it turns up, starting a new game crashes both Fallout 4 and Steam. This is annoying.

Yeah, I had absolutely no mods installed. I try not to install mods until I complete at least one full playthrough of the main story.

Steam too, yeah that would be. Try using a different version of Steam, go in to the beta setting and either toggle it on or off depending on what you have it on.

A new set of Steam .dll's might change something.

It's a beta participation thingy I think it's called.
. Jun 12, 2017 @ 8:54pm
Alright, downloading the Steam beta now, then.
