I deleted a workbench...
In Sanctuary Hills. Yes, I'm playing with mods, and apparently, when I accidentally deleted a house I was working on, the workbench, which I had moved, went with it. I hoped it had just fallen through the ground, but I can't seem to find it there either. Spawning a new bench with the only ID I could find online gives me the "you must clear enemies from this location" message and doesn't contain any of the items that were in it. I hadn't saved in quite a while, so unless someone has an idea of a way I can fix it, I'm probably taking a long break from FO.

The best fix is to load an earlier savegame if commands not working anymore.

Classic example of people.doing things they are not supposed to do, get angry and leave/blame the game.

I was hoping to avoid that as I hadn't saved in a long time... Technically, I can still access build mode, and all the other workshops seem to be working and have access to the items that are in it, so I guess I don't NEED need it. Also, I wonder if I could make a simple mod that just duplicates the workshop...

When did I do that? I just spent hours doing something and a misclick deleted the workbench, so I'm trying to see if there is a fix. If not, yes I may take a break (but hint hint, I probably won't because I've no life); I've been playing FO4 almost nonstop for about a month and just put a lot of work into what I was doing when I deleted the workbench. So spare me your, "classic example" crap. If you've got a constructive solution, I'd appreciate hearing it; if not, don't waste your, or my, time and energy.

What workbench did you delete? The settlement workstation or one of the equipment crafting tables?

The settlement workbench :/. I built a new house, moved the workbench into it, then later accidentally scrapped the entire house and it did that thing where some, but not all of the items touching it also get deleted.

That's actually kind of interesting, but I think I'd end up with a weird overlap if I did that. I might try it out sometime though.

I never touch mods that change the workbench or make me "store" it or move it. best option is to get the mod that will build another, or try spawn by console commands since it is an object in the list. Also you can still build? just that the workbench is gone?

Good luck with trying out the alternatives! Somehow sucks when such things happen.

Console commands (using the one ID I could find) give me one that acts like I've never used it before. When I try to use it, it tells me that I need to clear out the enemies first and it looks to be empty.

Definitely. I make the, "forget to save and then accidentally delete something I can't recover" mistake quite a lot, but usually, I've just been scrapping junk and accidentally delete the road or something. This time I'd done quite a lot more precision placement, so it's a bit more annoying haha.

Just the fact you can't normally move or delete the workstation. If you used the console or mods to do so, I can only applaud you and suggest you reload an older save or risk facing problems later on.

I know now why the Scrap Everything mod that I was checking said in big words "Save every-time before you scrap."
Must confess that the advice scared me a bit, and I see that wasn't unfounded.

Hope that you could solve the issue.

Ouch so you pushed the "Dont touch" button and everything blew up, master of dissaster XD

Well unless you can fish the workbench out of the underground vortex of nowhere, your choices are limited. Load a save, move to red rocket or abernathy and leave sanctuary hills forever, use that workbench everywhere mod to place a new workbench, or blame the game for something you modded for to remove the safelock of impossiblity and that caused damage yourself and leave it..and tell everybody how silly the game is because you cannot mod it to its very core without destroying everything you had done.

And additionally you didint save every second minute of building as one should do to return to a earlier state of condition. So YOU faild big time on all fronts..and blame the game.

For me that wasnt a waste of time, because mods are always need to do with caution.

I think I forget so often because I also use Place Everywhere which changes the function of F5 while in the build menu to prevent workshop timeout (which I only recently realized wasn't vanilla functionality btw), and leaving and reentering build mode is annoying because I have so many mods that add build items that build mode takes a few seconds to start up. I suppose I could try quicksave in the menu...but I feel like it's greyed out when build mode is active anyway...

You know what...it's after Midnight here...I'm sleepy...but I'm going to try not to just tell you to ♥♥♥♥ off...

When did I blame the game? I'm not saying, "OMFG THIS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PIECE OF ♥♥♥♥ GAME IS RUINING MY LIFE!!!1!!!11!!1!1" I'm saying, "Hey guys, I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, anyone have any advice?" Am I annoyed? Sure. But I'm the one who forgot to save. There's lots to blame the game for, but this isn't really it. So please, take your attitude elsewhere.
