Why is my assaultron such a coward?

I made an assualtron using automatron and took it adventuring with me, the problem is that every time combat starts it just runs away and doesn't come back until I kill all the enemies.

Is there something I can do to change this or am I ♥♥♥♥♥♥?

Not sure what you've done, but it sounds funny.

You want to make sure that the various parts make sense. You want a head with a long engagement range for long range weapons for example.

Also know that when you build your own you then can decide if the robot shall have a personalty or not. Once you enable a personality do the self-made robots act more defensively. A robot without a personality however can be commanded to directly attack a target. With a personality will they only inspect targets and only attack when you or they are being attacked.

Why yours keeps running away I don't know. Maybe it's the terrain you're on and it screws up the path finding. You should try different places.

Robots often act strange for me too. I hacked a legendary sentry bot a while back and took it to Home Plate before heading out to help defend a settlement under attack. The settlers actually destroyed the sentry bot (but not before I lost 2 settlers). I took the legendary item and went back to home plate before exiting the game.

The next time I logged in to play the sentry bot was back, sometimes when I fast traveled it came with me and sometimes not. I destroyed it but it had no loot and it didn't come back again.

It is an assaultron, it has all assaultron parts (AKA Melle weapons) . I never got asked about a personality mode so I don't know what that would do, And It ALWAYS runs away so its probably not the terrain.

Do i need to loot the assaultron parts or can they be made from materials? What perks are needed if so? Thanks.

You have to loot them from mechanist dlc robots but if i am not wrong with defeating the mechanist you get all remaining robot parts. As soon as you looted a piece you can craft it in the robot workshop.

Robotic expert and science can help you craft most of the parts if you find them. To unlock all of them you need to clear the automatron quests.

Try Sentry head , sentry torso , assaultron right arm with hammer saw , sentry left arm with explosive minigun , assaultron legs and 2 mini nukes on the shoulders. Muhahahahaha fun!
