Its so much fun, you get far more time to appreciate the environment :)
If you drop an item on the floor and command your companion to pick it up they will do so regardless of their current weight.
Major Slack as a walkthrough where he did no crafting, cooking or anything. He simply played with found items. This meant that he ignored all junk.
I tried it for myself and it is really fun to ignore all the crap in the game and just search for ammo , a better gun or better armor. Except for having to sleep (survival mode) you never have to stop adventuring.
I'd suggest looking up a Mod called "Salvage Beacons". What it does is allows you to put a beacon in a container and a collection team will be sent out to pick up whatever is in the container. Basically, once you get over loaded, toss all your junk and whatever else you want shipped back to a settlement in a container along with a beacon. When the collection team returns back to the settlement after having travelled to the specified location, the stuff will be transferred to the settlement for use in settlement builidng.
No longer do you need to act as a Pack Mule. Let those lazy settlers do the heavy lifting!
sometimes i like to browse the mods i can create though. i ended up crippling my legs without realizing it once (though luckily i had the recharging health perk).
i wish Bethesda would fix these kinds of bugs, but it's been nearly two years and they haven't done much.
