Mod update with nexus mod manager?

So the mod manager tells me when a new version of a mod is available right in the mod managers list..but..its isnt able to update it from there, i have to deinstall the mod, download it manually from nexus and completly new installing the latest version?

At least reinstall in the mod manager doesnt update the installed mod automaticly.

Or do i something complete wrong here?

NMM doesnt update it automatically anyway, you go to the page, grab the latest version, then install and overwrite the previous one unless the mod author says otherwise.
Read the description page, as some make you do certain things so the mod won't break.
