Strange gong like sound

Every couple of real hours or so, I hear this deep loud sound, that sounds like someone banging on a huge gong, or sheet of metal. It doesn't appear to be directional. Anyone heard this?

I've been wondering what's the meaning of this gong sound. Unless there's some kind of delay, it doesn't seem linked to the player's actions. Perhaps it has to do with the duration of your playing session (every hour or so, considering it's easy to miss) or the total distance travelled.

Maybe legendary enemies mutating? I can't really think of anything that sounds like a "gong."

WAIT are you in the south city like where diamond city is? is probably the metal or some ♥♥♥♥ off a building old and worn after 200 years or so

My guess is that it's the sound of a building falling apart (just an atmospheric sound effect) that you can sometimes hear in the city area.

Just to make it clear, I can hear it only once in a while, seemingly in random places, when I'm not fighting, when there's no building and no enemy around.
