You can do Blind betrayal and then not do the rest of BOS quest line (even if danse dies or hates you ,you'll keep it)
After Blind Betrayal (and he is still alive for the matter) he is a enemy and attacked on sight by ALL BOS troops (which is entirely not all bad) ,just advoiding major BOS hot spots is good enough to keep him in use (and if he is brought to Nuka world OR Far harbor). Add he is best with laser rifles and tactics (he tends to take cover, and provide accurate suppressive fire (so decent DPS and a great tank)).
The perk itself makes you rather more effective against 2 comman threats and a uncomman threat

Andromalius,
I can imagine vertibirds will be quite a pain in the but considering the fact that they already show up a lot everywhere in the Commonwealth even prior to Blind Betrayal, and that's whether or not I am traveling with Danse. I've had them show up and "help" me when I travel with synths (Valentine, Ada, and soon also the little French lady from Vault 81), a super mutant (Strong), and with a ghoul (Hancock).
For the time being I'm not complaining, lol. They can be somewhat helpful, making fighting super mutants, raiders and gunners everywhere I go less of a grind.
..........
Ronr42,
Yeah, I realize now that there's no way around it. And it isn't so bad, it was not knowing about it that had me beginning to drag my feet after hours and hours where no new dialogs came up and I didn't know why.
..........
Honor Guard,
Thanks for a lot of good info.
When I realized I wouldn't be able to get Danse's perk until later in the main quest line, I dismissed him and let him return to the Prydwin. I assume that when I return after completing Blind Betrayal he will no longer be at the Prydwin and I will have to find his hideout and try to make the right decisions in order for him to survive once I find him and we both are confronted by Maxson. It is after that event that I will need to take him with me again as my companion.
Maybe when that time comes it will be a good idea to leave for Far Harbor or Nukaworld (although it'll be difficult to gain any affinity when questing there unless I simply refuse to cooperate about any of the plans that any of the Nukaworld groups suggest. - So, either Far Harbor (if there are any quests left there), or simply stay in the Commonwealth and play it out there, I reckon it could actually be quite fun and different from how the gameplay usually goes.

Thanks again, guys.
I now look forward to continuing the Danse companionship along with completing related quests and assignments.
1. Shoot everyone minus slaves and give your self the perk for each leader's head
