Fallout 4 - bad choice
Can someone advise me?

I’m at the point in the game where I seem to be doing missions for The Institute. I just completed the quest “Synth Retention”. I then realised I’ve sided with The Institute by mistake. I wanted to side with the BOS.

When doing the quest “The Molecular Level” I went to Sanctuary Hills and built the equipment there. I didn’t realise that at that point I had to make a decision on which side to take. Since doing that quest, I’ve spent over 40 hours playing the game mostly build settlements and completing Nuka Cola World.

I don’t want to go back to a saved game 40 hours ago and I’ve tried resetting the quest (I’m on a PC) I’ve used the console command “resetquest 000b1752” but nothing happens. I’ve tried removing all the equipment that gets me to the Institute and then rebuilding it all. But that didn’t work either.

Looks like I’ll have to play the game out on the side of The Institute.

Can anyone advise me and help?

see the ending till it's end. I've seen only the Railroads ending and I got a cool final moment w/ Adult Shaun and the moments after that . You might like the Institute ending. Then try out Survival mode with BoS
You haven't sided with anyone yet, that mission comes next.

You can doublecross institute at Battle of Bunker Hill.

You're still ok. I felt that way my first playthrough. Without spoiling anything let me say this, you may do quests for any and all factions in order to learn about them and get perks. There will come a time when you must choose a side. The game will tell you that proceeding along this course will make you an enemy of X faction and even give you a popup to say, "Are you sure."

So relax and don't worry about consequences until that time. But you are getting close so make sure you save often so you do have a save that you can later return to in order to play out the other factions.

A lot of people will play out all 3 facton endings for the main story and then pick one of those to continue playing in the post main story game. There is a lot of gameplay after the main story is concluded.

So again, relax and have fun. But I do wish there was some additional dialogue when you join the BOS or start doing quests for the Railroad or Institute that would let you know that this is not an irrevocable choice because I know I was concerned.

The point of no return is IF you go after the Beryllium Agitator for the Institute or the BoS.
You got as far as Synth Retention, so you're okay for now, but I advise against doing any more quests for them if you want to side with the BoS.

If you really want to go with the BoS, just focus on doing their quest lines and you'll eventually be sent to get the Beryllium Agitator.

To be honest about it ... I dislike the BoS and Institute endings.
Make a hard savegame whenever you feel your just about to make a big mess...
That goes for every game.

The worst thing you could do is go visit the Railroad HQ while X6-88 is with you. That message is much more subtle and before you know it, sh**t hits the fan.
