Why you can't eat Dogmeat?
Protagonist has to eat. In post-apocalyptic world there are no factories producing canned food. You have to scavenge for food, use other people as food. Such is a life in nuclear wasteland.
But sometimes, you can't find food, can't find other people to eat and the only thing you have is Dogmeat. From postition of a good conscious person i understand why, but what if you roleplay as a selfish, egoistic person (i.e. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥)? :steamfacepalm:

Because, just like kids being unkillable, it was the smarter decision to make for Bethesda.

Imagine what happened if they allowed killing kids and pets? They would get hate. And that's not what companies want.
They don't stop you killing most cats, though, even if it's a houseful of them belonging to an old lady.

When you make a fallout game you should be prepared to face some hate. But you can kill cats and dogs in the game, just not dogmeat. While you could kill dogmeat in fo3

You can't eat Dogmeat because Dogmeat is a special type of Synth that Father sent to keep tabs on you. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've had suspicions about that dog.

Questions like this are an indication that you've just run out of things to do in the game, right?

I'm not critcizing but when you've done everything but eat your dog, I'd say its time to find a new game.

So you need a special name on the game before you can buy it?

A special price on complete set. :derp:
I also do not like the idea of DLC, so this complete collection is a good workaround to this problem. :steamhappy:

That said, however, I think there's a difference between eating an animal you relate to as a pet or companion, and one you do not. Unless you need to more fully grok their essence, I suppose.
When Germans were besieging Soviet city called Leningrad (8 sept. 1941 - 27 Jan. 1944), all pet animals were eaten by starving people of besieged city. You couldn't even find a rat to make a soup. :steamsad:

But have you got proof of this?

As a side note: You can kill other dogs and eat their meat so technically you are still eating Dogmeat, just not that Dogmeat.

Actually i was wrong about lack of rats. Apart from that, everything is true. I couldn't find evidence of survived people in English language (soon there will be no evidences of Soviet troops giving freedom to Eastern Europe, thanks to removal of all Soviet statues, military graveyards and memorials in Poland, Romania, Estonia, Lithuania, etc; Someone really wants Europeans to forget history, probably to repeat it again), but you can find a lot of evidences in Russian language. I provide several links, which translate Russian sites to English language:

An interesting example here: cat was killing rats and mouses and bringing those to her owner, saving whole family from death from hunger. There are two monuments to cats in Saint Petersburg (previously was named Leningrad).

At the same time, there were people, who couldn't kill theirs pet to use it for food, even if it means death to themselves. "Animals of besieged Leningrad", From memoirs of Irina Korzhenevskaya:

During 872 days of German siege of Leningrad:

632 253 of Soviet people died from hunger.
16 747 of Soviet people died from German bombings and artillery strikes.

These are civilian casualties.

Read a fair amount of that first link but boy there is a whole lot there.
It did backup what you said so i've got to give you that. Not a nice time for them during the war, maybe even the worst thing that they've had in centuries.
