It has a duration of 999 days. So unless you play long enough for it to wear off (unlikely because you probably have to play several years on your save) it is permenant.
If you hate it so much there are 2 ways around it excluding the being selfish and keeping the cure for yourself method.
1: use console and cure yourself that way, either spawn another cure or disable the debuff.
2: use a mod that lets you find another alternative to cure it.
... expects mercy from the game in return.
Nerds.
Either keep the cure for yourself or learn how to PULL.
Yep. Quite possibly the only quest in the game that requires you to make a moral choice - and they then backed out of it by making the choice irrelevant for gameplay.
They did this with pretty much every mechanic in the game. Radiation - then add so many ways to control it right from the start its not an issue even on survival. Health - and then toss stimpacks everywhere. Convo checks - and then make almost all of them for nothing more than getting a little more money that you don't even need. Stuff like that.
I made two bottles of milk. In the description (which sadly is not something that is visible in game), it expired in November 2078. Homogenized, pasteurized, and radiation sterilized, which is why it lasted a year to begin with.
Drinking it results in (currently) a huge gagging coughing fit and CHR -3 for a few hours. I'd like to stick in some wobbly vision and "colors", but haven't quite figured that out yet.
Also mysteriously cures mole rat disease. Not bad for a bottle of rotten liquid cheese...
It's also possible to use quest glitches to give the full cure while also keeping it for yourself. There are plenty of ways around this particular difficulty.

Try avoiding it like I had to on Survival Mode. That means every time you get bit, you have to reload a save - often quite far from the quest and go through the whole process over and over again. And you have to do it solo for the most part because if your following gets bit, you get it that way too - which is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but welcome to Bugthesda Games.
Also, it's just 10HP. You're not going to notice it impacting you in any real way.
Could always keep the cure for yourself, what's austin ever done for you?.
Living in the past.
Proper question is, what could Austin eventually do for you?
