Black Screen on Launch, Please Help
Hello. This game has run perfectly for me since release and I've got 160ish hours on it. I've downloaded a few mods, and the game still worked perfectly. However, I had maybe 20 mods, and my game was taking quite a while to load up, so I decided that the next day I would disable some and go on with my game. However, the next morning before I did anything, I tried opening the game and it didn't load up. Three seconds after opening, it would black screen and then say its not responding. Looking up solutions, I did everything that the guides would tell me. I uninstalled all mods, set the game to borderless, updated my drivers, reinstalled the game, making fallout.exe run as admin, running fallout.exe from the folder and not steam, renamed the intro files, deleted the intro files, reinstalled the intro files, but nothings seemed to work. I'm really upset, as this game is one of my favorites to play, so if anyone could shed some light on the situation or some kind of fix I haven't found yet, it would be very appreciative. Thank you!

Delete the three .ini files, then start the game launcher and let it detect the graphics card again. This will create new .ini files. Then use Nvidia GeForce Experience to optimize the game settings.

Also put your laptop's power management into Performance Mode and run it from AC power.

When you uninstall some mods not all of their files get removed from the game folders. If nothing else works for you you may need to uninstall the game again.

After uninstalling the game[normally you uninstall mods first] go to the game folder in SteamApps/common/Fallout 4 and delete anything remaining in it and the game folder. Next go to Documents/My Games/Fallout 4 and delete anything remaining in it. Now re-install the game. Last, verify the integrity of the game files. Then start the game.

Thanks you guys, I'll try this and get back to you both!

You're welcome. I hope you figure it out without having to uninstall the game again. Good luck.

Quick question, I should probably back up my saves folder form the documents\my games fallout folder right?
ronr42 2017年4月22日 16時10分
Yeah, you can move your saves to a new Documents folder then move them back later. When you use a save that had mods on it and the mods are gone, you'll get a popup telling you that content is no longer available. You can go ahead and click ok/yes.

OP, I just edited my post telling you the path to the game folder. I forgot to add Fallout 4. Do Not delete the SteamApps/common contents or folder!

Cook, thanks. I know not to delete all my games in my common folder, lol :3 Going through the reinstallation process right now, I'll get back to you when its all completed :D

Wheew! I never know what a player knows or not. You have no idea how bad I would feel If my forgetfulness caused you to do that.
Hey. So I really dont know why, but even after the reinstalation I get an immediate CTD. I'm starting to panic that I wont be able to play my game again, is there anything else you can think of to fix it? I appreciate all of your help!

If you have done a clean install of the game by deleting the remaining files and it still crashes, then all I can think of is a couple of basic things to do.

Make sure you're running the game as the Administrator of your pc.

Try turning off your anti-virus incase it updated and is now blocking FO4.

You did verify the game files after re-installing, right?

Remember that to effectively "verify your game install", game cache, that you do have to delete your game cache folder. It is standard. The "app cache" folder could be corrupted which instills wonderful mayhem. Google it.

1. Be sure you have all the mods installed as you had on last savegame because removing mods with a .esp midgame is usually bad and end up on not being able to load tha save.
If you removed some .esp that had scripts you end up having black screen / istant CDT.

2. Update your Video Card Drivers to latest version
3. Update your Directx (even if you think you have the last)
4. Whitelist the game executable on your Antivir/Firewall
5. If you know what you doing, try to kill some non vital background processes.
6. If you are using an ENB/Reshade, remove it.

hope it helps
NO. Just No. I will randomly mod my game, ignoring LOOT/MO/NMM, OS updates and just b lame BETHESDA because they did not send someone to break into my home and correct MY nonsense.
