How far along in the main story am I?
Im not even 20 hours in and I already broke into Mr. Kellog's house and am now following Dogmeat to him. I don't want to end the game so soon!

The Kellogg plot thread is actually resolved fairly early in the game. If you're on the way to confront him, I'd say you're about a quarter of the way through.

Oh, ok that makes me feel better. I want to milk this game's hours as I don't have alot to spend on games after building my pc.

Then make sure to spend time exploring rather than zealously following the main quest. ;)

I believe the story has 3 acts, and dealing with Kelogg is the end of the first one. So your about 25% of the way through as other have said.

Make a break in the main quest every now and then. Like finding diamond city is one, ..then rescuing valentine is another, then following dogmeat..and another break before entering the fort and so on. Also i suggest that you always have a companion at your side till you unlocked its perk.. unless you go the lone wanderer path that is.

I'd guesstimate you are 30% or so in. There a good point after finding Kellogg to break off and do your own thing for a time.

Most player love to seek secret spots. U prbly dont like it. Do side quests. Its obvious that u cant have much playtime if u dont love the map + secrets

Just fyi, and hopefully without spoiling anything, the climax of the Kellogg questline would be a good time to take a break from the main quest and start exploring the Commonwealth.

lev 20, Reunions. Normal. Walk the map some, get more fun.

Confronted Kellog with a Fatman instead of dialogue. 10/10 would eviscerate with a nuke again.

Kellogg's part of the story is considered ACT 1. I'd say your about 1/3 of the way thru the main story and about 1/200th thru finishing all the quests of the game and finding all the secret areas and other stories.

If you just do the Main Quest and only those quests that are related you can finish the game in about 60 hours if you don't wander around too long.

So relax you have a lot of game to play. I have a lvl 100 character that never did the main quest. All that xp is just from wandering the CW, killing enemies and doing the miscellaneous type quests. And that is on Survival mode where I can't fast travel and areas do not repopulate for weeks by the ingame clock.

Edit: And don't forget the Far Harbor and Nuka World will add 10-40 hours depending upon how fast you rush thru them. And you have your companions quest to do as well.

So, don't worry about rushing thru the main story quests. With the exception of the Minuteman raidant quest to rescue a hostage I've never seen a quest fail because you waited too long to do it.
