whats the size of the high resolution texture
It says uninstalled at my end. When I unticked and ticked the box back, it is trying to download a 55.1gb data. Why?

The game engine no longer uses just textures for colour information, but also for tessellation, lighting and diffusion. In short, it's a whole lot more of information per texture than before. Even Skyrim SE, which appears to use the same engine does in fact not make full use of it.

In order to render the game on displays up to 4K resolution with the highest detail does it also need a lot of data.

So do all surfaces now produce reflections, even when it's often not obvious. The ground shows wet and damp spots, metal surfaces can have scratches that reflect light differently, tiny bumps in surfaces not only stick out but show different reflections, too. Rail tracks reflect light differently, road surfaces have a reflective glare to them, etc.. Even tree trunks show it.

It's a lot work that went into very small details really.
so not worth it or what?

Only for 2K and 4K display with a high-end graphics card. The vanilla textures are sufficient for 1080p.
ok. it was too big of a size. wont download

I can actually answer that. For Nvidia graphics cards The base game textures do not cause an issue. But for Anyone using an AMD graphics card they get a period of time like 20 minutes later of game play an the textures turn rainbow colors.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUkKz7gOvkg

This is because the game was only optimized around Nvidia's graphics cards. So anyone yelling we found the problem we need a texture pack to fix this.Nvidia did release the texture pack.Reluctantly.An released it at 58GB the textures in the current game are 2080x2080 the textures in the Texture pack are 4280x4280 which are larger. The larger the texture pack the longer it takes to load an massively redueces performance.

They know this. This is why the exture pack exist.

Its useless

Few and long between true noticable enhancements in the texture pack, short between performance drops even on pretty darn good machines.

Saying its useless is go a step to far but is it worth the performance hit for i guess 95% of the players and their pref resolution - No but for a really high end machine with a simular high end display it can be worth it for some small added fidelity. It should download as an optional, wasnt like that when released dunno how it is now!

Makes the game look no different, Many sites have side by side shots of default and hi rest texture pack. A complete waste of time installing it, You'll get much better quality out of texture mods.

Depends on your definition of expensive, amd hardware and older nvidia cards are getting cheaper, and you can make a decent ultra rig for around 500 - 600, sometimes 400.

What you have to be careful of guys is that Steam will check the download update file if you dont go in there and uncheck it.

So your download will be 85 gigs instead of 25

Sorry for the 3 year necro post but 1080p IS 2K for anyone that comes across this post like I did.
(2K) 1920x1080 [1.920K= ~2K] (4K) 3840x2160 [3.840K= ~4K]
