Lockpicking GUI bug
Playing the weekend-free version, and I got the following issue:
There's no GUI whatsoever when I attempt to lockpick a safe (haven't left sanctuary yet), as seen on this screenshot:

Any ideas on how to fix it?

I get the exact same issue. Only workaround I've found so far (even after updating drivers) is to manually set the resolution to windowed - which is incredibly annoying with a big chunk of my desktop at the bottom of the screen, but it at least makes the game playable.

Didn't seem to help; neither borderless windowed nor regular windowed.
Nor does fullscreen. :/

I suggest you start by verifying your game files. And if you've installed any mods then disable and delete the mods before you verify and check that it isn't a mod that's causing this.
File integrity was clean, no mods.
Did consider the unofficial patch, but haven't tried that one yet, nor does it seem to mention this bug.

tried to scan local data on errors? helped me with this error

Technically speaking my screen is 4:3 but has to run on 5:4 due to GPU compatability issues. :/
Will have a butcher's at that mod.

Wish that bethsmeg would just up and return support for 4:3 and 5:4 aspect ratios, since I really dislike widescreen monitors.

The direct fix for the lockpicking bug is to add a line to the .INI files to set the vertical position of the lockpicking interface. The cause of the initial problem seems to be something with how it handles different resolutions that kicks the interface outside of the visible screen area.

This is something I saved for reference from a discussion on lockpicking and resolution fixes. The .INI file locations might vary depending on your system, and if your resolution is fine you might not need to play around with the various screen settings at all.

1 - Edit My Documents\My games\Fallout 4\Fallout4.ini
2 - replace "sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\," by : "sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, INTERFACE\"
3 - Go on the section [Interface] bellow in the same file and add the following strings:

fLockPositionY=100.0000
fUIPowerArmorGeometry_TranslateZ=-18.5000
fUIPowerArmorGeometry_TranslateY=460.0000

4 - Edit the two "Fallout4Prefs.ini" files in these places: " C:\Users\Name-of-the-User\Documents\My Games\Fallout4" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Fallout4"
5 - Replace the following strings with these values:

bTopMostWindow=1
bMaximizeWindow=1
bBorderless=1
bFull Screen=0
iSize H=1024
iSize W=1280

I guess that the usual gamer (wich games are made for) prefers widescreen as much as special controlers and the like. I wonder why you decided to upgrade your computer to the other requirements like multi core cpu and gpu and ram and everything if you have a favor for retro hardware. Still listen music from records and recieve tv from an antenna on your roof? XD

Because widescreen is ♥♥♥♥ блеть except for office work; viewing two documents side-by-side.
A square monitor will have a larger viewing area if diagonal size is roughly the same:

So I am not going to invest in a new monitor just because one uppity developer decides to drop 4:3/5:4 support.

I actually still use a CRT monitor (which has an older aspect ratio) because it doesn't do any sheening, which I notice particularly easily, even in very minor amounts. I've got no problems adjusting to viewing different refresh rates, but the tiniest bit of angled sheen is disconcerting.

This.
My LaCie Electron 22 Blue IV is just amazing picture quality.

Also, with the mod and ini tweaks I managed to fix the issue: thanks for helping me out on such short notice. :M4Sherman:

Well i guess the developers have to guess a certain degree of hardware standards. Adding support for very new hardware like ultrawidescreen or older like 4:3 would require efforts they decide to put into other things like storywriting or mapbuilding... or whatever. Complaining about the lack of such an hardware support is the same as complaining about the lack of roleplay choices or the limited ammount of different monster races or.. the flaws in settlement building or whatever.

At some point the devs have to draw borders, not further than this far.

I dont think i could get sound with a Soundblaster 16 card in an ISA slot anymore, could i?

I'm not too bothered by the necessity of manually specifying the resolution when it's uncommon, but I think they can be considered more responsible for things like the lockpicking interface bugging out instead of adjusting to different resolutions. That should be a basic part of supporting more than one resolution in the first place.

That's a pretty interesting CRT you've got, I like the "cover" to avoid sun glare hah. I've an LG CRT here that does 800x600 at 144 Hz, 480p at 160. Too bad D-SUB/VGA connector + modern GPUs is pretty much a bust.

Image is good, but once you put it beside my HP IPS it's just night and day. Haven't noticed much sheen but if the "tiniest bit" at all bothers you, then indeed I suppose it isn't for ya. I mostly use it to play emulators and stuff, looks great.
The CRT I've got handles 1280x1024, but doesn't even offer the option for anything above 85 Hz (which fortunately makes not the slightest bit of difference to me).

But I can notice sheening on flatscreens even just from my own minor head movements while sitting still. The newer monitors have improved greatly (good ones, that is; the cheap ones are still rubbish), but I've yet to find one where I didn't notice it.

There's different panel kinds tho, you should actually see if you can try them all, the TN's are probably those who are the worst offenders, there's the IPS's (in-plane switching) that's designed to show more colors and reduce the sheen and then there's VA and the really expensive OLED displays that light up or turn off pixels individually, those shouldn't sheen or backlight uniformity issues at all and have a practically infinite contrast ratio, but well... the cost almost doesn't make it worth it

https://www.techpowerup.com/232341/dell-begins-selling-the-30-ultrasharp-up3017q-4k-oled-usd-3500

This one's the first high resolution OLED around tho. Hope that it gets more accessible soon, wouldn't mind having one of those, although the burn in really concerns me
The different panel kinds have different drawbacks, though one of the main factors I've found is local availability, because when you're after something where your perception of small differences is important, you want to see it perform in person before making a decision to buy it (especially if you're after the more expensive ones that have half a chance at decent performance).
