The Exasperating End Fight With The Mechanist
Here we are at the center of the Mechanist's power ready for the final showdown. My robot, armed and armored as well as I could make him, goes down after about 5 seconds. I duck behind the crane near the entrance. If one of those death rays hits me it'll burn through my X-01 V power armor like a hot knife through butter.

When one of these gets near I snort jet, blast it with my combat shotgun, then duck for cover again. The action goes on for an excrtiatingly long time, with the female robot telling the Mechanist he's about to lose power, while he shouts "Route the power to the coils." over and over and over again.

Finally after what seems like hours, the female robot says, "You have 10 seconds before system failure." In a 10 count that makes the Dempsey/Tunney long count seem rushed, the thing's finally over. No mercy is shown the long winded Mechanist.

This is one of the worst managed fights in the game. With the armament he/she has the Mechanist can't be defeated by me. All she has to do to win is nothing. I can't get near her. Not only is the fight unwinnable, it's got to be the most boring in the game. About the 15th time the Mechaist shouts "Route the power to the coils" I am ready to pull my hair out.

I went in at level 39 on survival mode. I've heard it said that the fight gets easier at higher levels, but honestly, you don't get much better armor than X-01 V power armor, and it's useless against those death rays.

I remember doing this at level 27/30 on my second playthrough of the dlc but going the hack route. Way easier than battling the mechanists army of robots.

Too bad the factory becomes offline. I wanted to make my own legion of robots

I agree this is a ridiculous fight. If you run it in normal mode, it would still be challenging at level 39. I've run this in survival mode, but at level 64 and with legendary weapons.

Recenty, I ran thru this mission in very hard mode and discovered that before you get to the last fight with the Mech, you can actually target and destroy the robots on the overhead conveyors. This will reduce the number you will need to face in the last battle. Also, I set up on one of the stair landings, and dropped land mines at all of the stairway entries, plus others on the upper landings. Only the eyebots can get past those.

Hope that helps.

You can't hack the robots in the final confrontation.
The Mechanist says "My robots would rather die than serve you!" or something like that and cancels out whatever you did during the hack.

I am pretty sure you can. Dangit now I want to replay the dlc again.

The battle is certainly a tough one, since it's one of the few cases where you're locked in and can't fall back if things get too tough, and there are no places in the area where you can readily avoid most attacks. There's nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.

It's also drawn out (or seems to be) by how readily you can drop the robots sent against you, so if you're running about on the walkways trying to stay alive, you're also likely to be facing more electrical attacks and bombs.

I think it's good that they realized the potential difficulty of the fight and included another option, even if it's not all that obvious (being right near the start, while the required tapes are spread through the entire facility).

Well, you can, you just have to make them one by one with the robot workbench. My main objection on that front is that there isn't a way to make multiple robots from a single design, so you have to select pieces over and over again.

They should have included an option to set your current robot design as the default (in place of the usual stripped-down protectron) so that you could quickly assemble your preferred robots if you have the materials.

I've handled it in normal at about level 25, which was difficult, but not impossible. I had to fight a continuous running battle on the walkways and used a decent number of stimpacks, but the character in question had no particularly relevant abilities to help (most perk selections being aimed towards living alone in Vault 88).

I know, but what I want to do is to be able to produce an army/legion/nation of robot en mass.

I guess I want an ending where the sole survival goes nuts and conquers the commonwealth with robots.

You can hack them and shut them down.

As long as you are not wearing the helmet. If you wear a helmet when you zone in then the Mechanist wins.

You should make a protection with the doom head and Gatling gun arms. Its hilarious how 1 protectron can mow down the mechanists robot army.

I use my robots to replace the human settlers (at least in the settlement I choose as my home base). Robots don't barge into your bedroom uninvited.

I'd sort of do this already if building robots wasn't so laborious. Every settlement would consist of nothing but robot provisioners who would roam across the Commonwealth killing everything in their way.

Its even more hilarious if the same protection one shots shipbreaker from far harbor.

Happened to me and it ruined the dlc since I was hyped up fighting the monster on survival. Still love my protection tho.

I did that too however its doesnt have the same feel as having a bunch of robots out on patrol similar to what the mechNist was doing.
