Game saves deleted
[UPDATE]
Hey guys, sorry for the short post, I was in a rush to see if anyone had a similar problem and didn't explain very well.

Anyway, here's the longer version:
I exit saved from the game for the night, after pouring multiple hours and quicksaves into my session. I started my session off of an exit-save within Sanctuary. The next day, my progress since my original Sanctuary save was gone. I figured, no problem, what's a couple hours?

So I put even more hours into my next session, beefing up settlements, finding the alien blaster, awesome stuff. I primarily quicksaved and auto-saved. Coming into Lexington, I'm killed by a surprise Fatman nuke to the face. The loading screen pops up.

After a couple seconds, I'm immediately taken to the start screen. Curious and stunned, I check my saves. All of my progress for the session is gone, and the most recent save is my Sanctuary save from a couple nights back. So, I start experimenting.

The problem - none of my saves (quick saves, hard saves, exit saves) overwrite my previous progress. They're automatically deleted when I die or exit the game. Saving over my progress directly also doesn't matter. Starting from a previous save before my Sanctuary save doesn't matter. I always lose my progress. I only have one character, and I've checked my difficulty setting (Normal) multiple times.

This really bums me out. Before starting my game completely from scratch and removing my progress,I'd like to know what recommendations people have. Thanks!

Just in case, comp specs
Windows 10 Pro
Processor Intel i5-6500 3.120Hz
16 RAM
64 bit OS

[ORIGINAL]
Most recent saves get deleted. Exit saves, autosaves, all get removed.

I haven't seen if hard saving suffers the same fate, and I'll try re-downloading the game, but any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for reading

Guessing here. Turn off Cloud saving and disable OneDrive.

Just checked your profile. Try disabling any mods that change game play in anyway. Not settlement building mods.

Thanks for the advice! I don't have cloud or onedrive set up, so that's no issue.

As for disabling mods, I did so (removing them completely from my session). I then went out and tried to die again. Same result: I die, the game loads for a couple seconds, and then boots me back to the start screen with all my progress lost.

If the saved games listed glitches then just swap characters. This usually resolves it.

Started a new, mod-less character and the game still won't save. I re-installed it too. Sounds like this is more and more a problem with my computer and not the game, but everything else is fine on my rig.

Check your permissions. If it doesn't have permission to write the savefile, it won't save. I remember Win 10 screwing mine up after an update, so it might just need set properly.

Can click the game properties and check the box to run it as administrator from Steam should resolve that.

Thanks for that, unfortunately I'm still having problems; same as before. New character, mod-less, and when I die, I'm still booted to the menu and no amount of quick or hard-saving prevents it. I've set both my Fallout 4 and Launcher items to administrator.

EDIT I checked to see if the comp was doing this for all games. Seems like it's just Fallout 4. I checked some progress I've made on Rocket League and it's all still there.

You say "modless". Just disabling your mods may not be enough. Also, uninstalling some mods does not remove all of it's files from the game folder. I can only suggest you re-install the game.

If you still have any mods installed, uninstall them first then uninstall the game. Next go to the game folder located in C:/Program Files[x86]/Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4 and delete anything remaining in the game folder then delete the folder it'self. Now go to Documents/My Games/Fallout 4 and delete the Fallout4.ini and the Fallout4Prefs.ini if they're still there. Then re-install the game. You have a fresh clean install and saving has got to work again.

I'm still getting this issue somehow. I removed all files from my computer (even removed all fallout 4 items after searching "This PC"). Clean install, no problems there. I also checked the main menu for any previous save files; nothin'. Clean slat as far as I could tell. I saved within Vault 111, let the first roach kill me, and then I'm taken to the main menu after a couple seconds of loading screen. Is there something I'm missing here? This is the nuclear option after all.

Not if you followed the instructions I gave you on how to uninstall the game. You should be able to save the game.

Edit; Go to Documents/My Games/Fallout 4, right click on the saves folder and make sure it is set to Read Only.

Since I removed all previous Fallout 4 files and cannot load any additional saves, I don't have a Saves folder to set as "Read Only"

OK, I don't post on the FO4 forum anymore(Been playing FO76 since 2018) but, GOT MODS???

This next generation update is sure to have broke some mods and the Script extender. You may have to wait a few days for F4SE and your mods to get updated. Then, download those updates. Until then, I'll assume your saves are toast.
