[SOLVED] Early-mid game sorcerer weapon\armor?
Devs screwed up INT\magic damage scaling big time in this game so I have to use a melee weapon to kill trash to have enough mana for big guys (big guys who move fast whereas I cast very slowly lol, another present from FROM devs). However, sorc stats are abysmall. Could you give me some advice on what weapon I should get\use? What enchantments? I'm currently at the castle (Vordt boss). lvl16.

And what about a shield? Ideally I'd prefer a 100% phys. res. shield but I can't use it atm.

Cheers

PS When\where can I get a catalyst worth upgrading?

Stick with the default staff for a long time and upgrade it, the scaling differences between it and the best staff are so low. As for melee weapons you can get a magic scaling boss weapon from the crystal sage (requires 18 dex). What I did at that level was use a crossbow in my left hand that I infused with raw to finish off enemies that my soul arrows didn't quite kill (you can also infuse a melee weapon with raw). Make sure you find the sorcerer trainer at the base of the wall (in the middle of all the pilgrims) and the other sorcerer trainer before the crystal sage boss in the road of sacrifices.

Court sorcerer's staff seems to be good for more end game. I was curious if there's any decent armor though? In 2 armor used to give bonuses but now in 3 they don't seem to anymore. Is there any armor that does something special?

Yes, at least I have found one item. There is a helm that boosts sorcery damage at the cost of making you more vulnerable to magic: http://darksouls3.wiki.fextralife.com/Crown+of+Dusk

Other than that, I came to this thread looking for the same answers. :)

You want about 15-20 dex for casting speeds (dex influences cast speeds for spells)

Ok first of all, silver eagle(?) shield (found at the high wall) requires 10 str 10 dex so get that, boom now you can block stuff. Now level Int, and just int, you want to be able to do as much damage as possible that is until you found the sorcerer merchant, then you'll want to invest into Aff not so much for the FP but for more spell slots so you can equip greatsword/flashsword.

As for weapons the starting staff is simply best as long as you keep reinforcing it, then above 50 Int its the court sorc staff. as for a smacking weapon the astora sword raw does a lot of damage but it requires 12 Faith (if you dont have the faith it'll bounce off armored enemies as if they were blocking with a shield).

Dex and casting speed; dont bother, not at the start atleast, you'll get the casting speed ring early on which gives you a dex equivalent of +30.

Armor doens't give you extra spell damage except for a single headpiece, the rest you need rings for.

Also get rid of the basic soul arrow and upgrade it, and dont forget to allocate estus, What i do is always have one more on the orange.

Also as a side note, you can start as a knight and then simply spec as Int, this gives you great starting gear and you can buy both catalyst and starting spell at the shrine handmaiden and afterwards yoel (who is overpriced).

P.S use the catalyst buff, it often makes the difference between one shotting or one shot and a poke.

P.P.S This is rougly what i did and i breezed through the first three areas but i'm not a pro sorcerer :P

How do you upgrade spells in DS3 i thought you couldnt?
Zeretrelle Apr 26, 2016 @ 8:19am
You can't. You just buy improved versions. (soul arrow\heavy soul arrow, great soul arrow\ great heavy soul arrow lol)

Since you want to get dex for cast speed and ♥♥♥♥ i went for the Uchigatana that drops from the Ninja guy just outside Firelink Shrine as my finishing weapon. it requires 16 dex. You can infuse it with a crystal gem that you get from a crystal lizard right before the crystal sage bossfight. When you infuse the Uchigatana it deals magic dmg and scales with Int.

When I make a mage I always start with a knight (lowest luck and other useless stats I don't need on my mage build). Then I go for court sorcerer staff and moonlight sword eventually with 60 int build. But I start as knight and level up a bit of vigor and stamina (20 both) and then level up int. Eventuelly my build looks like the mage in my guide. Also knight makes the beginning of the game extreme easy, even Katana Guy goes down in a couple of jump attacks (or stunlocks).

Yep, came here looking for some advice on the matter, why would anyone complain about a helpful thread. Its like some people can't stand not complaining or something lol

Thanks for the info!!!

sometimes I wonder if people post to do anything other than complain. It's like everyone on steam comes from some magical alternate universe where every game wasn't just perfect but particularly focused on your very own personal likes and dislikes and engineering preferences with the way people seem to find a reason to call every single game they purchase trash.

Combine that focus on negativity with a pre-schoolers finely honed sense of what's "fair" and I've honestly got no hope for humanity when it comes to having a fair shake at being happy.
