Fix FPS and more Dark Souls 3 BIG TOPIC

So... I took liberty to share my experience with everyone out there who is having problems runing dark souls 3, please feel free to add some of your fixes too:

0. STUTTERING
Move the GameOverlayRenderer.dll and GameOverlayRenderer64.dll from the Steam installation folder to another folder and make GameOverlayRenderer.log as Read Only.
P.S Disabling overlay on steam in game configuration is not the same as this...

1. CRASHES

1.1 This happens because the fog effect, glowing light effect, hair and capes physics is broken, to fix this go to the dark souls 3 settings, and put effects quality, shadow qualit and, light quality on low.

1.2 Some people reported that disabling steam overlay stoped the crashes, or the infinie loading screen bug, try it yourself if the settings on low didnt worked
-> steam app -> Settings -> In-Game Settings TAB -> Uncheck the box next to "Enable Steam Community In-Game" and click OK.


2. LOW FPS IN NVIDIA CARDS
Seems that the game dont use all the nvidia GPU power, to force to use more power this is what you need to do:

2.1 Use the new driver 365.10 or newer, made to fix problems with dark souls 3 and the new doom:

2.2 If you still want some FPS try this: edit the dark souls 3 profile on nvidia control panel, and disable everything FXAA and Texture filtering, choose the maximum performance on every option, and only let enable the trible buffering, vsync, segmented optimization, max of pre-renderized fps = 4, VR pre-renderized fps = 1


3. LOW FPS IN CPUs INTEL OR AMD

3.1 After started the game, press ctrl+alt+del go to task manager, on the folder details, press right mouse click on darksouls3.exe and define the priority as high as it can...

3.2 Seems that dark souls 3 mainly a single-threaded game, so to increase the FPS of that main thread (bad pc port as allways), go to your computer bios and disable the intel H.E.I.S.T or SPEEDSTEP or in case of AMD the cool n' quiet option.

3.3 CPUs with quad-core, hexa-core and octa-core CPUs should disable Hyper Threading, and those with dual-core CPUs should enable it


4. LOW FPS IN PCs WITH LESS THAN 8GB RAM
Use Razer Cortex to finalize unecessary apps and processes runing on the background

P.S. This is only necessary if you have 6GB of ram or less, and some cases in a pc with 8gb fo ram with a windows that have a lot of junk runing on background.
P.P.S. Only use the booster part, dont use the other ones like changing windows configuration, may destroy your O.S, and dont use the save data backup, may get your accout banned.


5. GAMEPAD IS LOWRING THE GAME FPS
Disable the vibration on the game settings helps a little bit, but does not solve it.


6. GAMEPAD NOT WORKING
Update your drivers, see if the gamepad is working propely on control panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Printers n devices, remeber than you must use analog mode on the gamepad to be recgnized by the game.
P.S. If you are using logitech F710 wireless gamepad put it on Xinput (front switch must be on X, not on D).
P.P.S. Dont use third party software to emulate keyboard keys on your gamepad, this is getting people banned from online play and is considered cheating... Don't know why that is cheating, but it will get you banned...


7. KEYBOARD MOVEMENT LOCKS IN ONE DIRECTION
Press that direction 2x times quickly


8. MOUSE BUTTON + UP ON KEYBOARD DONT DO LUNGE OR KICK ATTACKS
Use only the keyboard to do that, like put the bindings below:
key 1 = light attack
key 2 = strong attack
key 3 = blocking
key 4 = special weapon skill
Than use w+1 and w+2 to do lunge and kick attacks.
P.S. Dont use input apps to do that with one key, its also considering cheating and will get your account banned from normal servers... Man they really got sensitive with banning people on ds3...

I never said it was a perfect simulation, but barring owning one, it's the closest I could get it to simulate it. I also said it wasn't meant to be taken into absolute values, only relative terms.

That means a lot of the issues are also client-side related. Because it's virtually impossible for the same game, under the same hardware under the same OS can have different performance.
That means people need to look at background programs, overlays (steam, afterburner, fraps). For example fraps is known to cause issues. This is why it's useful to have the "i have no issues" people on the thread. Because you can corroberate and compare. Instead of whining for 50 pages, maybe just try and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ co-operate. And don't take a test that was meant to merely illustrate something overly serious and attack it with vapid arguments and character assassinations.

I have no idea what your hardware is. But I feel like people are just really jealous and spiteful towards people who have no issues. Instead of asking what they're doing differently. I also get the occasional hitch when picking up items. But that's so benign, who cares. If you're having framedrops, forcing vsync off and limiting the framerate will ellivate it.

About the tests that you did with the downclocking: 3.1 to 3.2 ghz might not be a big change. But your 2.4 ghz is. Also I dont think that you understand the stuttering issue. It is not the case that we get a constantly low framerate. It just hiccups and its completely random (at least for me).

Actually, it does have something to do with clockspeed. Because you can also see a diminishing effect on the amount, clustering and height of the framespikes. I can redo the test at 3.1ghz, but you'd have to stop attacking me for no apparent reason other than just trying to understand the situation.

I oced my 4690k to 4.2ghz and was giving me the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥ stuttering.
Lots of people in the general tried to disable hyperthreading on their 6700 and oc to 4.5ghz , with no avail.
You think I'll solve it by snapping a broadwell from intel headquarters?

Not sure what that speccy is supposed to tell me. Have you also tried installing it on an SSD? TUrning off overlays? Running adaptive vsync? Plethora of other things you can do.

Fine, refunding it is your good right. I have way too much fun with the game to be salty over a few hickups.

May i add, ps4 just got a new patch: it makes performance significantly worse and breaks the online: FROM codes like monkeys and doesn't bother to test.

Free to blame users, but your idiocy has a limit and i have proof of this issue being present on a vast array of configurations well above recommended settings, I don't know what you want to achieve denying it

Updating drivers for new games is so stupid since games are made and tested on old drivers, the real fix dor fps are game's patches

Why someone post a message like this, I will never understand... Is it that he is trying to sound smart, stating the obvious, going clueless about how people know that and want something to fix it outside a patch because from software is really bad on porting games from the console, wich make him really stupid.... Or maybe it is because he is obsessive with correcting people, wich makes him just anoying... Or maybe he is just trolling wich I will never undertand what he gets out of it... You can say whatever you want but nvidia drivers for example, did NEVER solve any problem, the max thing they can do is add 1 or 2 fps. Porting's performances are not in the amd or nvidia hands, just to be clear

I get 42fps ish no matter the settings or resolution. I get the same FPS at 4k set to max as I do at 800x600. GPU percent is about 30% and CPU 1 is 60-70 percent rest of the 8 cpu cores is 20 percent. I can play witcher 3 at 50+ fps at 4k on ultra my system is not the problem I get almost 18,000 in gpu on firestrike. I am however on a Dual CPU workstation. I think there is something in either coding or driver related. Not all low FPS is because of a potato driving the game.

I'm running ECC ram that may be an issue though hasn't been in any other game. I had an issue with fallout though lowered the shadow distance and godrays left everything else on ultra and play in 4k with 50+ FPS. Someone said they downloaded a torrent version of the game and had no issue with FPS compared to there steam version which might point to either internet connection and or Seam. I'm downloading now and will test. p.s I'm downloading at over 150mb/s so I'm sure my internet connection is not the issue. lol
