Try paying attention to the world around you a little more...
don't forget (from DS1 white soap stone In Lordran, the flow of time is distorted,) (DS3 white soap stone The nature of Lothric is murky, unclear.)
You got the basic Firelink SHrine from your own universe and timeline.
Then, the FOrgotten Shrine, vision of a world without Fire.
And Finally, The Kiln of the First Flame, at the beginning of time, at the dawn of fire.
The Firelink shrine is reuused because it's a vision the Champions of Ashes (your character) know well so he can understand the difference and what the Fire going out means. Thinks of it as a ...T.A.R.D.I.S, maybe?
Than makes sense, and I considered that, but my issue with that is to get to the Forgotten Shrine, I didn't have to teleport or anything, I simply walked a continuous route. It doesn't make sense to travel through time by walking from A to B, especially considering they don't wrap around onto themselves but simply extended outwards.
Perhaps I'm over analyzing it or something.
And this theory also makes some time paradoxes that break a lot of the continuity of the game.
For me the "light" firelink shrine is an illusion made for the unkindle one or chosen undead to manipulate them to restore the first flame. Who appear to be the not so good ending in the end because, restarting the cycle again and again... etc etc.
Intriguing game this is.
So what you saying is we're actually the Doctor
Also Ludleth tells you more about dark firelink and that time.
Dark firelink is in the past, and the "normal" firelink doesn't seem disconnected to me from the other areas since it's located behind lothric castle :|
Dark firelink is where the bell hasn't tolled yet for us, the shrine handmaiden tells us that.

Also, talk to the dark firelink maiden more and she'll tell you about the bell.
Also talk to ludleth more After visiting firelink and before giving the eyes to the firekeeper; there's all the proof you need. Simply spam 'talk' more.
Why are people so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ desperate to talk crap about Youtubers in topics that aren't even about them? Grow up for the love of [Insert Prefered Diety Here].
Also, Vaati does credit his sources where possible. So, unless you want to play the "no one should be paid for a hobby" card, or don't think video editting and checking these facts via gameplay is worth supporting him, there's no reason to even mention it.
Besides, youtube is free, and so is Google/Reddit/Whereever the heck you want to discuss the game. If one content creator annoys you that much, ignore them and find another. Simple, basic consumer logic.
"AHHH SPOI-" Title. Spoiler topic. You did this to yourself, Timmy.
Still here? Good.
I'll first repeat myself.
Talk. To. The. NPCs.
The shrinemaden's first line ALONE suggests something's "off" about Dark Firelink. I'm mildly paraphasing here, sorry, but it goes something like this :
"Oh, fancy seeing you here. And not a peep from the Bell"...
Opening cutscene of the game. You are brought to life by the sound of the Bell of Awakening to hunt the Lords Of Cinder to link the Flame. If the bell wasn't rung...then it's heavily suggested the Flame's gone out. Hence, no sun.
There's also the sequence if you give the Firekeeper the eyes found in the hidden area. Remember, the layout's the same as the "normal" shrine. The Firekeeper SEES this world as a "failure" and BEGS you to kill her from showing you that "hell".
She respawns by the way. Worth pointing that out seeing as you might lock yourself into an ending you may not want...
Oh yeah. That's a thing apparently...
Ludleth's also knows a LOT more about the world around you than he lets on. Merely finding the dark shrine is enough to trigger a new comment, as well as finding the Firekeeper's Soul in the normal tower, or the eyes themselves.
The proof's there right in front of you. You need only look at it.
ok its cool, but you're maybe able to speak or maybe don't speak like every one else is a stupide person. I needed proof to that because i don't see it by myself, its simple to act with scorn, or appear, but not so simple to not give that feel. soo. as you want.
