Can someone explain infusions to me + buffs on ds3
Let's say I have a 30 str 30 dex and 30 faith build. And I get a straight sword to +10.
If I infuse it with lightning, I heard I can't cast the lightning weapon buff on it? I can only buff infused weapons if they have a non elemental infusion?

If this is the case, is there a reason to go for a lightning infusion (for example, could be fire or whatever) on weapon? Isn't going for the refined +10 given that you can buff it with lightning weapon always better than the lightning infused weapon that cannot be buffed, even with like 40 faith and 20 str and 20 dex?

I was going to infuse the lothric sword with lightning but then i hear that i can't buff it if I do that so i'm not sure what to do. Will a refined lothric sword + lightning weapon buff do more damage than a lightning infused lothric sword without lightning weapon, at 30 faith?

I'm planing on going melee build + sacred oath and lightning weapon, not sure what to do with the infusions.

Anyone? :|
Dont quote me on this. I might be wrong. But when you buff a sword. You give it FLAT extra dmg. When you infuse a sword, and lower the base dmg, but add scaling in the respected element. I am 90% sure that, in the long run, with high faith, dex and strength. The infused weapon will be better.

I do NOT know if the information i just gave you is right or not. But weapons dont play a big of a role as you think they do, It is your stats that truly make a weapon good.
If you infuse a weapon with magic, you will not be able to buff it with fire, lightning etc consumables.
This goes for any weapon that are leveld up with twinkeling and Titanite Scales.

All else should work.

To elaborate on this:
Pretty much any "Special" weapon you cant buff with resin or spells.
Almost all of the weapons that upgrade with regular titanite can be buffed.

Is that right Ser Avaion???
But, if I infuse a normal titanite weapon with a elemental rune I can't apply magic weapon buffs to it right?
If that's the case, isn't a non elemental infused weapon +weapon buff better than elemental infused that you can't buff?
nero,
raw infusions are good at low level when you want that quick +100 damage on ultra great sword or something alike.
infusions on the other hand add respective scaling. Divine adds faith scaling, magic adds intelligence scaling etc. That type of sword will benefit at ~60 faith tremendously, but before that, in most cases, it is better idea to go for if your a soldier/melee for heavy/sharp/refined and add weapon buffs with magic yourself, or use numerous items that add similar effect to the weapon. those items will be sold in indefinite quantities later in the game.
latter is better if you dont want to invest additional points into pyro/sorc/faith to buff your weapon.
although darkmoon blade is op compared to those items.

so if i have a weapon that is +10 and mine inteligence is 60, should I infuse my weapon with simple gem? or should i let it be NOTHING but +10 and add crystal magic buff?
