Assassin starting class and estoc questions
When it comes to minmaxing any particular build, are classes like the assassin even useful? I like the armor sets of this class and some others like the herald, but I usually stop my builds at the meta level of 120 or 125 and they dont seem like they really outshine any of the other classes.

Also ive never used thrusting swords, is the estoc good for pve? I know it used to be meta in pvp but they nerfed it or something, but how well does it do now? More concerned about pve though.

Its a great starting class for an adaptable build. Most ADP builds utilize specific miracles/sorceries such as fall control and situation things to give them an advantage, while keeping the INT and FAI stats at the minimum they need to be.

They make great refined builds, so invest in DEX and STR as offensive stats.

starting class doesn't really matter at all unless you're minmaxing or making a low level character

TLDR?

ayy lmao, didn't read because there's a million of these.
It'd probably be best for a dueling build, but my previous point still stands that it doesn't change much even if you are minmaxing.
Long story short, mercenary is better since it doesn't waste stats in faith or luck.

Estoc used to attack much faster when the game first came out but now it has unrealistically slow attacks and its DPS sucks as a result. You won't get any DS2 level thrusting sword action in DS3.

Assassin is a nice-to-have though, since you get spook so much earlier than you otherwise would.

This. Honestly, if they ever make a DS4 (and that is a pretty big if from what Miyazaki has indicated) I do hope they make stronger scaling/effects or something to each class to individualize them to a greater degree. Short of Knight, Deprived, Warrior none of the other classes have any real value to them.

Assassin is a downgraded version of mercenary more or less.

At very specific builds str+int at 14 dex it could be equal.

At str+int+luck + 14 dex, something like crystal buffed hollow it could be better than the rest probably.

Perhaps giving weapon classes a statistical buff, or unlocking new move sets for weapons? Honestly the latter would add a lot more replayability

It would also help with slower weapons mix up potential in PvP so they could be more viable without the need for permanent poise. I'd be game for both changes.
