Katanas as kind of fast, but not as much as daggers or straight swords. They have meh damage for the most part and require little stamina to use. Their biggest benefit is the run attack, rest of the moveset is alright.
When people complain about dex builds, or say how useless strength builds are, they're referring to PvP. In PvE anything is viable. Not like strength builds can work in PvP, you just gotta be more patient and know what moves to use when.
Also pretty sure I don't count as a noob for DS3.
Caestus and Demon's Fist is a super fun combo for PvP. Not really amazing, but fun. Really need to remake my Mister Fister build.
If you think the katana sucks, you haven't learned how to use it yet. Simple as that.
You'll do more damage sure, but I found it way more fun to swap between 2-handing the caestus or the demon's fist. That way I had a little more variety with the flaming spin on the Demon's Fist.
