Holy crap do Dagger Builds suck
Decided to do an entire playthrough relying on the Bandit Dagger and parrying, while stacking Luck stats + Carthus Rogue so the bleed stacks. But why the hell bother doing that when doing any other weapon type feels more rewarding? Hell if I get a parry in, it still doesn't ripost as much damage (even with Hornet's Ring) than a Black Knight Sword or most weapons period.

I've lost some PvP, won some PvP, had some great moments and sad ones ... but god do I feel disappointed overall. It's no wonder I NEVER see anyone else using daggers, unless to parry with them (Parrying Dagger, ect.) Never had I felt lack luster in damage, whether i'm two handing it or pulling off a parry. Any other build feels more valid and requires less work I tell you. The buffs towards daggers just weren't enough to make them fully valid in this current patch.

Yes, daggers suck. The Corvian Greatknife is imo the best because it actually has range, despite it having an atrocious weapon art.

Daggers are great as side weapons.
A quickstep with IFrames as WA, without FP you only have the quickstep.
2H a dagger in the right moment to pressure the enemy, add bleed or poison. With poison you won't win a match but on a "psychological warfare" a ticking healthbar can pressure someone if you keep up a pressure.

Even a SS R1 spammer can get annoyed by a 2H dagger R1 spam

Yes, but again the corvian greatknife can pressure harder than most daggers, even though it lacks a quickstep; it just has more range. I think the basic dagger is maybe one of the better daggers out there? Idk it's been a while.

While everything you've said is true ... the fact they're only good 'side weapons' is an issue in itself. For cosplay purposes, I am maining a Bandit's Dagger and though I 'can' win fights and have, man does it take work. I'm not even talking about the parrying, just doing damage is so low unless the player (for some reason) lets you whail on them long enough to pop the bleed.

It makes me feel sick really. Sure they're "useful" but they can't really work as a main weapon and that breaks my heart. I feel like i'm handicapping myself when I use a dagger for damage.

As I metioned the poison possibility: picking the Grhu dagger and add poison resin. I've had many moments where my enemy panicked bcs of 1/3 health and poison ticks. Swapped then to another weapon to catch or picked Avelyn for finishing.

Corvian is really great for its range but even a ordinary dagger can be great bcs of the known phantom range.

Many possibilities to have fun or even trolling.

ofc, dmg is hilarious of daggers. They are only good to put debuffs on them (bleed/poison). Debuffs apply by hits and not dmg. That's why it is a side weapon

That's useful for PvE purposes, and yeah that's great but ... what about PvE and PvP? The sliding can be great in dodging enemy players but the main issue I have is the lack of good damage. Even parrying and doing a ripost isn't as high as you could manage with other weapons. Just want them to be valid for a fight.

you can swap weapons after a parry before riposte! keep that in mind.

I like the Twin daggers with my faith/Int/Quality/Pyro/Hollow and Dex build "-"

Daggers trade damage for insane attack speed which allows for better control of the flow of combat.
However due to how defense works in this game their damage becomes crippled beyond belief.
So they are only usable for 3 things: finishing low-health enemies, finishers (backstabes and ripostes) and applying buffs. Something like bleed or darkmoon blade.

I use them RAW with my low lv and Refined with my quality without buff. There arent that bad, i prefer daggers over Whips or hammers.

You aren't supposed to be doing high damage on daggers, you're supposed to be building bleed up.

Been trying that Corvian Greatknife- it's much better than the Bandit's Knife due to more damage and range. I will miss my slide special, but I gladly welcome being able to KILL people if I parry them, christ.
