Where is Pontiff's face....?
http://darksouls3.wdfiles.com/local--files/image-set-bosses:pontiff/pontiff.jpg
Since at the high wall of lothric there is a statue of him as a young sorcerer with a face, so where is it now? It just seems to have melted or something....unless he is wearing a mask but that also wouldn't explain why his eyes are in certain rings.

I'm pretty sure "pontiff's eyes" on rings just reffer to him, not literally his eyes since its implied that every single outrider knight has both on their fingers, which is why they turn into insane beasts who fuse with their armor.

His face is either covered by mask or got consumed by whatever has taken Pontiff. The pattern on his "face" matches the weird stick-wings that he gets in his 2nd stage.

How come the player can wear the rings without becoming insane?

Either we have some special power to resist (we are not just some dudes after all) or we don't wear them long enough to go insane.
Another possibility is that Irythill's habitants are not humans but some other species instead. They surely remind me of dark elves for some reason.

But corvians are not a different species by themselves, they are people who turned into corvians.
At least i believe so... In dark souls 1 there were crow-people and it directly said that they were worshipers of Venka and tried to become crows in order to get closer to her.

I honestly doubt Pontiff is a corvian, he seems far too intelligent and un-animal like to be a corvian, also corvians seem to have feathers all over their bodies while Pontiff clearly has his legs and armed revealed with no signs of any feathers, there was one theory that suggested he was trying to become an angel or something but was rejected of such an honor. I am paraphrasing greatly here obviously but thats the most popular theory.

Pontiff does appear to have feathers. They are visible just before his second phase before he summons his spectral clone.

Also the Corvian knights are clearly different than the smaller ones, stonger and more intelligent. There are clearly sub species.

Also pontiffs wings don't resemble a corvians in the slightest, corvians wrings have feathers and have multiple layers while pontiffs are more singed and have no feathers, i don't really think its fair to just automatically assume that because Pontiff has wings that he is a corvian, there are many other theories as to why he has wings.

OK so i did some research and apparently they aren't wings at all, but black tree branches, you can see them sprouting from the eyes of the blue robed deacons if you look close enough, what these banches mean i have no idea but it seems pretty cool.

He is potentially related a son of one of the tree women in Ariandel, perhaps the crawling tree woman at the frozen river in particular.

His face melted off when he went through the painting.

Or he's the result of maxing the darkest colours to 255 in the character creation.

He's visually wearing chain mail over his face.
