Are treasure maps worth it?

I bought a couple of treasure maps in Cyseal and finally opened the first treasure chest - Map 2, I think. But all I got from it was around a 100 gold and 2 equipments - one blue and one green. Nothing special at all. It seems like a complete waste to me. For the treasure map price, I could have bought a pretty good item instead.

Was I fooled by the guy who told me to buy the treasure maps, or am I missing something?

I'd say it's worth it if you don't have high enough perception, but even then it's probably better to prioritize getting new skills and equipment in Cyseal and only come back to it later when you have some spare gold. There's also someone selling 'secrets' on the second map in an area that you will reach at about lvl 12+, and perhaps it's worth the trouble to buy those if you have extra gold, but once again buying gear and skills comes first.

Knowing where the treasures are is nice if you plan to have multiple playthroughs, so there's that.

Now that merchants actually sell good items, I don't think that they're worth the gold whether you have the perception to find them on your own or not. It's even less worth it if you put some points into crafting/blacksmithing since you're very likely to be selling everything you find without making a profit.

I just craft Superior weapons & armor with leather scraps,metal scraps, stick + bow string, turning knives into daggers, making cloth robes. Other than the leather armor everything else is worh 1k-1.5k gold. I never have an issue with gold with craft 5/black smith 5. Have been buying all my legendary and epic armor from vendors. Do not have lucky charms on any char (gonna make a lucky Charms +5 on my ranger). An I am doing just fine.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I will stay clear of the maps until I have excess gold. Time to look up some crafting recipes for Jahan :)
