Worst final boss fight ever?
Here's how the discussion went at the development team meeting for the final boss fight for this game.

"Hey guys, I just had a great idea. Let's have the player loss the fight if one of the NPCs dies. And let's give the NPC a tiny amount of health. And then let's make it impossible for the player to heal the NPC. Their healing spells can't be cast on the NPC".

"Brilliant idea, Bob! I like the way you think!"

"Because, I mean, the worst quest in every game that's ever been made is always the escort quest, where the player fails if the NPC they're escorting dies. So it will be like every horrible escort quest that everyone can't stand, but for the final boss fight".

"You're a genius, Bob!"

Oh, by the way, after winning the fight finally, I was instantly pulled into a conversation with Astarte. Meanwhile, 2 of my characters were somehow standing in fire and both died while I had no chance to save them.

Then the endgame conversation ended and I was back in Rivellon, with Bairdotr and Jahan both dead and gone.

Well done all around!

You can cast healing spells on Astarte, as well as position one or more characters / summons around her position to help protect her.

Did you walk around the Source Hunter academy?

How would I cast healing spells on her? I tried, it wasn't possible to target her with the spell.

And, what source hunter academy? After killing the dragon, I was just left in Cyseal, so I quit the game as it seemed to be over.

after u kill the dragon, you then go to the source hunter academy, maybe you did not look at the screen carefully and mistook it for cyseal?

Just finished the game myself and one of the best games i've ever played!
I had no problem targetting Astarte with healing magic - maybe bugged out for you?
And yes, the Source Hunter Academy resembles Cyseal a bit. You just have to walk around a bit to notice it's different.
Well done Dev's!!! Time to check out D:OS2 beta.

Astarte should be targetable directly, or by using her portrait in the turn order list.

I just finished too, it's such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ outrageously good ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. Some advice, you can spam a bunc of buff spells or someone some help before you intiate the fight with the void dragon, just don't finish your conversation with Astarte until your ready to fight. Take out the melee void monsters before the floating ones, those ones hurt alot more. Get too close to the void dragon and he will spam elemental cone spells that do 500+ damage. Always assume he will target Astarte, I too had issues healing Astarte but before the fight I was able to use mass healing and give her 7 turns of healing. I used ice wall once on the void dragon and it saved Astartes ass from his projectiles. I also spammed summons, and used them as kamikazes on the Void Dragon.

lol i killed the final end boss with 1 hit in tactician mode. stop whining
El_Bastardo Apr 18, 2017 @ 1:04pm
be me
play the game with a friend on tactician
i'm a mage, he is a dw melee "cut all the things"
i have more initative
use meteor storm
use meteor storm scroll
boss fight is over before he even had a turn
make fun of him for years
Amnesia Apr 19, 2017 @ 1:10pm
you can switch characters while chating.... F1-F4 switches to characters or double click there icon... this tactic is a great way to steal stuff. position your character away from the loot and talk to them, then switch and start looting, think of it as a "distraction"
so Its your own fault for letting them stand in the fire.....

But yeah I hate escort / protection quests, i play lone wolf dual sword warrior build, high speed and strength and on tacticion mode, my second and third characters are a witch and the guy from the starter area in the library to cast healing and crowd control (stun / freeze)

Hadn't had an issue with the game on classic difficulty until this fight, keeping her alive was impossible, EVERYONE seemed to prefer attacking her even if they were taunted. Finally said screw it and played it on easy. I still had to heal her a few times, my party barely took any dmg, but i beat it finally. Definitely not fun for a final boss fight, I hope there isn't anything like this in Divinity 2

EDIT . . . forgot to mention, smoke grenades really helped to shield her from ranged attacks but I still had to have 2 of the 3 guys in my party babysit her since the void dragon spawns summons on her.

Odd, just beat the game for the first time last night. It was on normal co-op mode. I dont recall us healing Astarte at all. I know she healed us a couple times. Between our 4 characters, zandalor, astarte, and a couple summons, damage was spread around decently. My warrior died from a ice cone attack that hit for 550 dmg twice, Astarte ressurected him. Madora nearly died 4 times, but that ability that lets her survive with one hp kept her alive. Madora was near astarte most the fight, perhaps she soaked most the damage for astarte?

Btw, we chose to merge icara and leandra but they didn't join in the final fight, they waited up the stairs by Brian the vendor. Bug perhaps?

It took me 3 reloads, but what worked in the end is healing her, surrounding her with my characters and CC on the spawns. Most of the damage to the dragon was by meteor strikes (I had 4 scrolls, that removed ~75% of his HP). The rest was my tank and various summons. The fight was long and slow, but I think the one with the voice-stealing Immaculate in the Phantom Forest was more annoying.

The fight was so long, the dragon teleported a couple of times. He didn't spawn anything after the spiders.

I wish I had more meteor shower and hail attack scrolls. It is probably possible to kill the dragon just by using enough of them, without even coming close to him.

Great game, all in all. Now, on to Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Interesting topic. I played through the entire game in honor mode. It clearly states in game that if both your SH's die you lose your save in honor mode. So I make it all the way to the final battle in game. Never did it say that you must protect NPC's or your save is deleted. I never worried at all about Astarte. Well she died and I lost my save. Really POed me. I started all over from teh very beginning in honor mode and finished it. The last battle was easy then because I now knew what the rules were. But I really don't love this game because of being decieved about having to worry about an NPC. Any game I ever played before in my life always would warn you if you needed to protect an NPC to complete a mission.

that sucks :/ but if you followed story it shouldve been clear she needs protection. if no astarte no source. plus trife even tries to dissuade you about twice from showing up to final fight.

maybe larian shouldve coded sad ending if astarte dies but you win. or make dragon overpower you if astarte dies so you'd die too. in way abrupt ending's same just not so artfully done.
