when you're in your library, right click on a game, press on "properties"
then choose the "Compatibility" tab,
see if can enable it,
test the different proton versions, try the "Proton Experimental" first, if it helps, then good.
if it didn't solve the issue:
try to enable / disable vsync / freesync /, whatever you have available, and if you don't have it available, try to set up vsync / freesync system wide, and if it didn't solve it, then disable it.
check for GPU drivers updates,
try to switch fractional scaling on/off in the display settings,
try to switch between xorg and wayland, and see if something changes
last, if nothing else works, try installing Lutris, and try to run the game via Lutris, with different compatibility modes, etc...
this is all, one of these will fix your issue, hopefully!
thank you for the list i will check it tomorow since its about to hit 0 am and will be going to sleep, but i will be checking it and if nothing works welp its not the end of the world.
have a good sleep :)
now i tried to change to experimental which i was already on it since the linux version only shows 25 percent of the screen and its the bottom left of it,
tried to change to newest driver which was nvidia 550 when i was on 545, but the recommended was 535 and i didnt touch it since its a lower number and i have no clue if its just better than the newer drivers,
i have no clue how to change vsync and freesync on the pc and in game as i havent been using linux that long so i have no idea where to look ALSO no idea what xorg or wayland mean and where to search for them,
and lastly fractional scaling was off and i think that will just screw my entire screen.
im going to screw around with some other settings on steam by changing to other proton version and if that dont work im just gonna have to live up with it.
to put simply, xorg and wayland are two methods for linux to communicate between the system and your monitor,
open a terminal, type "echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE" (without the "")
what is the output?
switching to Wayland (which i believe is newer than xorg, and solves a lot of issues) might fix your issue (not sure)
once you switch, it's easy to switch back, if you want, but wayland is supposed to be better for gaming, look it up if you want.
do you want me to help you switch to wayland? there are plenty of guides for it on the internet, if you need any help, let me know or even add me if you want
ok thank you for helping me and as changing it il do it but later since i need to cook some food but il text you back in case i need help again, since im so bad with computers you'd think there is a joke
i am somewhat new aswell and honestly you learn from experience, that's all.
i'm here if you need help, byebye for now!
===========
also, im now reading that wayland is still very experimental on mint,
but i'd still give it a try.
from what i read, as of Mint 21.3 Cinnamon, it is mostly functional and working good.
here's a good explanation about xorg / wayland:
old.reddit.com/r/linuxmint/comments/156t3q1/eli5_whats_wayland_why_should_mint_add_support/jt1p3ux/
i switched to wayland and now nothing works and steam constantly downlaods or updates my games and when i run crosscode it runs at like 15-20 fps. I guess it would have been a good idea to tell you my specs but i didnt remember to say them.
geforce 1050ti
Intel© Core™ i5-7400 CPU @ 3.00GHz × 4
ram 16 GB
Mint 21.3 cinnamon
is your system itself buggy now? less functional? runs at low fps?
or are we talking in-game, and steam-wise?
your specs are fine, especially if you're on a linux system,
this game is lightweight and does not require heavy rig, look:
MINIMUM:
Processor: 2 GHz dual core
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: Hardware Accelerated Graphics with dedicated memory, 1GB memory recommended
we just need to make it compatible with mint, and i think switching to wayland is the right direction because now your problem sounds more straight-forward to solve (maybe)
because low FPS is easier to solve than screen tearing imo lol...
here's what i want you to do, open a terminal and type:
"ubuntu-drivers devices" (without the "")
what is the output?
im sorry im so slow to respond since i live in a diferent timezone and its been pissing me off that it takes me a year to respond.
as for what happens with wayland its that for a start:
1.some games just dont launch at all.
2.crosscode runs at 15-20 fps and probably other games as well.
3.everything just seams slow and laggy a bit.
i havent check every single game since i have like 150 of them and its gonna take me as much time as the sun to explode, and as for finaly what the ubuntu thing says its this:
== /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0 ==
modalias : pci:v000010DEd00001C82sv000010DEsd00001C82bc03sc00i00

i hope im not giving you something thats supposed to be only for my eyes.
anyway, the information you provided is not something private, don't worry.
===============================
to start off, disable the steam proton support for the specific game you want to test.
if you don't have it already, install "nvidia-smi" (type it in the terminal and it will tell you how to install it)
second step, install:
driver : nvidia-driver-545 - distro non-free
with "sudo apt install nvidia-driver-545"
restart your pc.
after that, in Mint settings / Control Center, scroll to Hardware and click on System Info.
do you see your GPU listed there?
i assume you do,
if you do, then go to the terminal once again and type "nvidia-settings", a window will open, scroll all the way down to "PRIME Profiles"
and then make sure it is set to "Performance Mode"
restart your pc once again,
now try to launch the game without proton, and if it doesn't work, then try the proton experimental,
if that did not work, disable proton again, switch back to Xorg, restart pc, then see if the game works with / without proton, and if it runs smoothly.
====================================
SIDE NOTE:
you can now go to nvidia settings > OpenGL Settings,
and there, you can now toggle "Sync to VBlank",
VBlank is supposed to be like vsync, if it isn't the exact same thing,
VBlank basically matches the refresh rate to your monitor (i think, read about it if you want)
https://old.reddit.com/r/linux4noobs/comments/cqzk42/what_does_sync_to_vblank_due_in_nvidia_x_server/
i think it is the equivalent of enabling vsync system wide on nvidia settings on a Windows system.
you can try disabling / enabling it and see if things improve :)
====================================
last thing, make sure in linux mint settings that your pc is in performance / balanced mode, either is fine, if you don't have a laptop i'd set it to performance always.
i have a few more ideas that might work, but this might solve your issue, if not, then don't worry, we'll keep going
