Is it possible to configure controller input?
I'm playing the demo and I'm finding the controller mapping to be quite unsettling. I'm used to something more akin to Hyper Light Drifter, which is also very common in 3D action/shooter games, but I'm having a hard time adapting to CrossCode's controls. It would be nice if we could fully customize input.

Is it possible to do it yet on the current build? I imagine the demo is a chunk of a previuos build, so it would make sense for the feature not being available there.

Hey there,

CrossCode doesn't include configurable gamepad controls because most control schemes will not work for the challenges you will encounter in CrossCode.

CrossCode works different compared to HLD in that there is more focus on precise aiming and no autoaim. You HAVE to use the right stick to aim and that's why you have to use one of the shoulder buttons to shoot.

For the same reason, dash has to be placed on a shoulder button because you should be able to dodge while aiming (that's in fact one of the most effective strategies against a lot of enemies)

However, there are a few addition in the current build that should improve a few things compared to the demo.
1. There is an alternative face button that you can use for close combat attacks
2. another Face button can be used for guarding

In addition, we do give the option to swap Trigger and Bumper Buttons (that should also be the case in the demo version unless I'm mistaken).

That makes sense, I suppose. I'd just like to note that HLD doesn't have auto-aim (not that I'm aware of, but then, I've always played it on normal). Precision is also important to hit targets. Don't remember there being any lock-on systems, actually.

The demo doesn't have any options regarding controls on a controller, just keyboard. Considering where the current build is right now, would it be possible to set shooting to RT and dodging to LT, then? I find it more natural when dodging can be set to RB, but I can get used to it being on LT instead and that would make sense to me given how important it is in this game.

And which face button exactly? The vast majority of action games I played, whether they were 2D or 3D, had melee attacks set to X with Y taking care of special moves and heavy attacks.

Hey there,

yeah the current versions allows you to set Shooting on RT and dodging on LT.

Attack is set on X and guard is set on B.
Special moves will be executed using the other right Shoulder button/trigger (RB if RT is your attack button). Since special moves can also be executed while aiming we can't use a face button for that.

Gotta check HLD again but from what I remember there was a slight amount of autoaiming. At least I never felt the need to aim once I got used to the system. All I did was roughly moved in the direction of the enemy and pressed RT (or was it RB?). Also played on Normal.

Oh, that's great, then. Thank you! Will definitely get it once I'm able.
