How do you fight Hornet?
*deep breath*

I must have spent over two hours (throughout three days) and fifty+ deaths just fighting her. So far I can only reach the second time she's down. How many times does this have to happen until she's down for good?

How did you guys fight her? I've been patient, watching her more closely than watching myself. I only ever attack when there's a clear opportunity, and I only heal when she's doing her ranged needle attack (while I'm out of range) or when she's down. Most of the time I'm doing fine, but sometimes I couldn't get out of her needle shot's range, or I'm late to jump by a split-second, or I misread the range of her jump, or we walk right into each other because I thought she was going to jum/run the other way.

AAGH.

What am I doing wrong?

And are the other bosses as bad as she is? The first boss was easy enough.

Aaaaand three tries after posting this I beat her. Of course. Oh god I'm so relieved I don't have to do that hell again.

Still wondering if the other bosses are as ridiculous as this?

she'll hold her needle in a specific way when she's goingto charge forwards or throw her needle forwards. run towaards her. if she does the needle throw, jump over her and do a downwardss aerial slash on her head. If she charges forwards just jump over her. If she jumps into the air, moove away, and if she dives at you simply walk away from her. Or she might do the flurry attack with the needle thread.
attack her after her forwaard lunge if you can jump over it and land close enough to her to hit her in her down time. attack her after you dodge her jumping lunge.attack her after she laands from doing the flurry attack. attack her when her needle is extended on the thread.

if you're stuck on this fight after trying for 2 hours this game might not be for you, because that fight is trivial.

It's funny cause except for that her, I'm enjoying everything else about this game, including the difficulty and all. I'm usually pretty good with twitchy action games too, although Hollow Knight's controls always feel a bit off to me.

Hornet feels really weird to me compared to the other bosses, and I'm not quite sure why. Something about the way she moves tends to throw me off, and despite her being relatively slow and telegraphing most things, I still always find myself getting hit by her more than I should. It's not that she's a particularly difficult boss compared to the others, more that she seems able to fake me out better. Darn you, Hornet, stop being so cool.

There are definitely way, way harder bosses in the game, though, but the toughest ones are only required for the "true" ending. As you go on you'll also find a lot more charms and upgrades that make it easier to strategise for different bosses, or to power yourself up more before coming back to them.

From this point on you generally have the option of going to other places and finding other bosses to fight if you get stuck on anything, so there's a lot of flexibility in how you play. Keep at it!

I was stucked too. Fighting her make me filled with duel courage. I suggest you just watch her move and stop attack. when you feel you can dodge her attack with confidence, then the game begin. This suggest work fast for all boss in this game. you will find that this young lady quite friendly compare to the later boss.
One more suggesting is that, stay with boss in a certain distance, Far away doesnot mean safe. If you have play Monster Hunter, you should understand what I mean.
Enjoy

Heh. Wait till you fight the second round of the Crystal Guardian… or the dream bosses… Hornet will feel like a walk in the park.

Good news: She's all about watching her movement to see what she's going to do. Just takes time and experince. Eventually you'll breeze past her.

Bad news: The game is going to get a lot harder.

Having played the game some more, yeah, you know what, I think I'll enjoy the ride. For all the pain that Hornet caused, I actually... think it was good???

The thing with Hornet is that fighting her has to be, I guess, twitch-perfect? There's not much you could do to dodge when you misread her attack, say. And I had lots of trouble adjusting my internal reaction to how the game works (hence the 2+ hours, 50+ retries).

I get how the game runs now, and I can now adjust my charms and stuffs, so hopefully the other bosses wouldn't be so tedious (?)

Yeah. I thought I hated LOST KIN but he was an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥....with the space for emphasis. As for hornet, she was easy, even the second time I'd rather do white palace 3x over than lost kin

But it would crush his very soul. :3

Spoilers: You have to fight Hornet again later. Only twice as fast.
