It legit took like 30 or 40 attempts though, it's a tough fight.
I equipped Fragile Strength, Defenders Crest, Quick Slash, Longnail, Grubsong and Shroomspores. I also had Shadow Cloak when I fought him.
Defender crest is a must for this fight, as it will kill any plague balloons that come near you without you having to do anything, meaning that you can heal when Lost Kin is stunned.
My only combat advice would be to be patient (in terms of fighting him, not going berserk trying to get as many hits in as you can at once), and dodge through him when he does his lunge attacks.
It took me a few times to settle on that combo of charms for this fight and in that time I died a LOT. But once I had found that combo I think it only took 3 attempts.
Srs tho, use defenders crest. Keeps those bastard plague balloons off yo butt.
The other dream fights I had no problem with but then again, I also did them with heavily upgraded character.
I was just thinking this the other day. The repeated bosses in general feel like they were designed with the mentality of "how can this be made harder?" rather than "how can this be made harder and more fun/cool/engaging?". The ghosts being able to spawn on top of you just shouldn't be a thing, and throwing more adds into a fight in general is one of the least interesting ways to improve its difficulty.
Lost Kin's moveset is actually really cool (and I really loved the Broken Vessel version of the encounter), I just wish he'd been give one more regular attack instead of including more adds.
Adds don't mean anything if you use Defender's Crest. I think that's part of the challenge - shuffling through your collection of charms until you find what works for you.
Other people stacked blue lives to a similar effect - outdamaging him before he killed them.
I HATE the idea of missing out on something important just because he is a sucky bossfight.
A streamer on Twitch had a similar build (minus Stalwart Shell) and managed the fight pretty well on his third attempt:

Only lost 5 HP total the next time I fougth him with more boosts.
EDIT: Also get spore shroom or defender's crest, to take care of the ghosts, since healing is impossible if you dont have one of these.
The Lost Kin dream boss battle has proved challenging for some people, including myself, so here are a few tips. Keep in mind that my dream nail was upgraded to level 2, and I had the monarch wings. I did NOT have the shade cloak, abyss shriek, lifeblood core or sharp shadow charms at this point in the game.
Loadout is key here. After multiple variations of charms, trying out various combinations of longnail, heavy blow, shape of uun, Joni's blessing, lifeblood heart, nailmaster's glory, mark of pride, grubsong, and fragile health charms, I was ultimately successful with: quick slash, defender's crest, fragile strength, stalwart shell, and spore shroom. Defender's crest will allow you to all but ignore the spawned distractions and just focus on the boss. Quick focus will make this easier, but you'd have to sacrifice one or more of the others, and I found that the sacrifice was too much at this stage in my character's development.
The best time to heal is while the boss is knocked out and still for a few seconds. The Lost Kin's tells are very specific, so pay attention to these. Rearing back while on the ground means that he will dash forward, so jump over him. Jumping up a short distance then rearing back means that he will dash over you, so dash underneath him in the other direction. The safest spot after his downward attack spawning projectiles is right next to him.
Be patient and let him jump before you move so you can see which move he's going to make, and swing away every chance you get. Bottom line here is don't be afraid to get hit. Good luck!
Please let me know if this was helpful. ;)
