Failed Champion = No Soul?
Has anyone else encountered this bug? No pun intended, but seriously, I get no SOUL drained from him during the entire fight. Is there any way to obtain some to heal at all? Or are we expected to fight him without healing or using spells EVER?!

It's at the point where I just let him kill me after taking damage once, just to get things over with because I cannot find any way to heal, not the mention that he has no predictability, which makes NOT getting hit all the more frustrating...

I just found and beat him. Since theres so little soul and not much time to heal, I took advantage of maxing out blue health charms to live long enough to learn his pattern.

Keep him in sight at a distance and stay on the ground. If he jumps towards you, dash under him and spank his behind once or twice before you retreat out of mace distance, and he should jump again. This is the main trick that made him beatable, he doesn't give you any room otherwise. If he jumps away from you, he's about to fire 1 to 3 wave attacks to jump over. When he jumps right in the center, just stand back and try to deflect some rocks into him. Took a few tries but I got him eventually.

See, you say that, but I've had his patterns change at the drop of a hat. Sometimes he leaps forward instead of backwards, other times it's 5 waves being shot, then him jumping straight up and back down, with like an inch of distance, giving you no time to dash under him while playing safe.

I'm considering bashing my head against the literal wall, as it is getting more frustrating KNOWING how to take him down, but having his pattern change by the whim of RNGesus. I feel like I have a better chance to win the lottery than beat this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ anytime soon.

The pattern changes aren't that drastic. If it's of any consolation, he's probably the hardest of the dream bosses.

Just a heads up, using the dream nail on him, even his armor, gives you about 2/3 an orb of soul, the charm that makes you use it faster makes the fight a lot easier as well.

Wait, I believe you that he's optional but how the heck was it the "second or third" boss that melfice faced? You're telling me you found other bosses by just naturally playing the game for the first time before you fought False Knight? How? Who the heck did you fight first?
Mother Gruzzer was the first boss I found. Then was probably the False Knight.

Dream Wielder, equip it!

When the Failed Champion goes down, whack him with the Dream Nail about three times to recover a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of SOUL.
