The purpose of bank service
There is a bank service in the game. One can hold certain amount of money in there and then withdraw the sum if needed. That made me think; what is the fear of death, if you have nothing or very little to lose dying? Next question arrived: should it mean game over for real, if you die again, without having reclaimed your shadow? Another, related question: what is the purpose of a rancid egg, if you never need to use it, simply because there is ever no need to even try reclaim your shadow?

What do you think about these cases?

I ask these questions, because I just lost 9k of Geo in a certain place, taking unnecessary risk and eventually dying just before delivering the last hit, which would allow me to re-embrace my shadow. It felt sour, yes, but arguably, I had little use of all that Geo anyway, with current perspectives. What made me feel particularly bitter though, was the notion that the game, allows me to keep on going, even though probably do I deserve to be out of business by now.

EDIT:

I did not actually use the bank service; I opened the account but did not deposit.

It's not possible to answer this post without a spoiler, but I will say that the things you talk about in your post are not actual concerns with the bank system.

Thanks for the answer, @Songbird, but what about the shadow - if you do not mind Geo, does it make any sense to even attempt re-embrace it?

Losing your shade breaks your soul meter, removing the ability to fill the last 3rd of it. This means with a full gauge you're only able to heal twice or use two spells instead of the normal three. This may not seem like that big a deal but in the middle of a boss fight or tough area, losing that bit of extra soul can mean the difference between life or death. You can still play the game this way but I don't think anyone would recommend it outside of a challenge run, definitely not on your first play through.

Also, while I don't know what part of the game you're in, there are endgame reasons to want more geo, and while you could get that much without dying and losing it, it's a lot easier if you either reclaim your shade or use the bank.

Valid reasons, @'ATalksToSelf'.

The most I have spent in the game at one time, thusfar, was at a certain fountain, where I randomly gave up the maximum allowed amount of 3k, for which I "won" a soul vessel fragment. Quite an expensive piece, I think. The nailsmith, also collects some thousands of Geo for mastering of the blade, assuming one has the ore required.

Good currency that seems death-proof, are the trinkets, therefore I assume if there is no immediate need for money, it is better not to sell these to the Collector too soon.

Furthermore, there are the rescued Grubs. I also assume that if there is no immediate need for money, it is unnecessary to go collect the rewards too soon.

Yes, relics (and certain boss and mini-boss fight rewards I suppose) are the best currency really. The only downside is that Lemm (the relic collector) isn't by a stag station. :crying_yeti:

I haven't used the banking service even once in my 200 hours of gameplay lol.
I seemed to have competely forgotten it even exists and can't even remember de banker's name.

Millibelle. But other than knowing her name, I've barely used the bank. Unfortunately, I was spoiled on what happens if you want to "complete" that story arc.
