Soul twisters
There's so MANY. I haven't even found the Soul Master yet and I've died far too many times to them. I mastered the Hunter's Journal entry, and the one for Mistakes.
Is there an upgrade or charm I'm missing? I have 6 masks, no soul vessels, 6 notches, and upgraded nail once. My charms are Wayward Compass, Gathering Swarm, Thorns of Agony, Soul Catcher, and Steady Body. I tried Quick Focus too but it didn't help much.

Git Gud. If its any consolation these enemies only show up in this area and are among the hardest in the game. You can get a charm that can potentially block their projectiles, but you would have to go through a whole other area and d hefty grinding to unlock it.

I can't imagine Thorns of Agony does anything against a projectile enemy.

I would just engage a soul twister and only dodge him and his orbs for a good two minutes and then start initiating attacks and dodges if I were you. There are going to be more difficult types of that enemy and more damaging versions of those orbs way down the line.

I just avoided them after killing the first few. You wind up taking more damage than its worth unless you are really good at dodging, and they just take too long to kill anyway.

Explore somewhere else and come back later with better upgrades. IIRC this area is not necessary to visit or at least not necessary to be there so early

They are not particularly hard enemies... they'll never hit you if you just stand beneath them and take like two steps to the side. They just take a while to kill if you don't have any nail arts yet.

All of Soul Sanctum is completely optional to finish the game or even get the true ending, so you could just come back later.
