What are these black statues for?

I've found a handful already. You hit them a couple times, collect some white orbs (which don't seem to do anything), and that's it. I haven't seen anything tangible from finding these yet.

They restore your "Soul orb"/mana. The white ball that fill itself near your mask/hitpoint.

If you don't know what you can do with the "soul orb", just continue playing a bit, you will eventualy know

You mean the same stuff I get when I smack enemies? If so that seems kind of pointless.

I do. It should be pretty apparent what it does if your soul is empty, and then after hitting it, you have soul. Yes, question my reading. I question your logic.

If he is at full Soul then the white orbs from the statues will appear to do nothing. This is especially true if he hasn't yet gotten any abilities that consume Soul.

Considering how many simple Goomba-esque enemies there are, I'm rarely low on soul, especially considering the statues are usually out of the way.

Considering how many simple Goomba-esque enemies there are, I'm rarely low on soul, especially considering the statues are usually out of the way.

You will most certainly use it later on.

He's not referring specifically about the ones in that location but later on they'll be placed in areas where you will appreciate them a bit more.
