I think Hornet was trying to prevent you from breaking the dream seals on the basis that you would not be able to contain the infection yourself - if the Hollow Knight failed, why would this random vessel be any better? Although that depends on whether she knew what went wrong with the Hollow Knight in the first place.
I wonder if it was possible that maybe other vessels could have succeeded, I mean, we did, didn't we?
I checked out the Nosk boss room. Correct me if I am wrong but there are about 4 or 5 vessels hanging from the ceiling. Two of them can be seen clearly at the center of the boss room while another two can be seen somewhat blurry at the background. A silhouette at the top right of the background appears to be a clock that is similar to the clocks of the other vessels.
Maybe I'm wrong
So he is either dead, or in some other dimension. Otherwise the Godseeker would be able to track him down.
Interestingly, while the Godseeker does attempt to attune with Higher Beings(with mixed results), such as Unn, the Pale Lady, the Pale King, Nightmare's Heart, The Radiance, and the Shade Lord... there is no mention of Mr.Mushroom the Master Herald, who also is hinted to be a Higher Being. Perhaps the Master Herald is so powerful that the Godseeker cannot even comprehend it?
There's also the Lifeblood creature in the Abyss, which the Godseeker does appear to be attuned to, and has created a facsimile of if in the Binding Room. Is that a Higher Being aswell? It seems like it could be one, but what to call such a creature?
- The Collector (black creature that dissovles into a black mass if defeated)
- Zote (visually resembles a vessel and explosed into black drops if defeated)
- The snail shamans: The may not be vessels but their bodies resemble that of void creatures... well or maybe they are just really black snails, who knows. ;)
The collector seems to be an escaped Kingsmould, who were also void creatures.
Zote actually appears to be the same species as the Elderbug. All Vessels have sharp horns, while Elderbug and Zote have dull horns. Vessels do not have mouths, but Elderbug and Zote do.
Zote is most likely a bas-tard (weird word to censor) of the grey king, like hornet. His dreamversion is gray prince Zote, after all. So I would say he is a vessel.
